Beauty Sage Editors’ Picks Sample Box Review

Hi guys! I recently purchased one of Beauty Sage’s curated Editors’ Picks Sample Boxes, and wanted to share with you guys what you can expect should you order a similar box from Beauty Sage. Now for those of you who don’t know, Beauty Sage is an online store by YouBeauty.com – it’s more of an online boutique dedicated to offering the best in health and beauty products that have been tested and proven to work. Now, every one of Beauty Sage’s sample boxes are $5 each (or free with a $75 order) – their featured brands change, but you can choose between four specialized boxes or an Editors’ Picks box.

I purchased the Editors’ Picks Sample Box and here’s what I received:

Beecology Lavender & Honey – I received two sample size bars of Beecology’s relaxing lavender with honey soap. They sent it in the cutest little drawstring bag and had a soothing lavender scent – I loved the packaging and size of this sample.

21 Drops De-Stress Drops – I received a small vial of 21 Drops De-Stress aromatherapy oil drops. Their De-Stress formula includes Frankincense, lavender, ylang ylang and German chamomile that help steady the nerves, relieve tension and reduce irritation. It was a nice sized sample, and the packaging was very well done however this scent wasn’t for me.

A Perfume Organic in Urban Organic – The sample was also a small vial. Urban Organic is constructed of a sweet lemon sorbet bourbon, tangy lime peel, basil, ginger, and smoky vetiver. The scent was akin to a lush vegetable garden – it reminded me of a garden after the rain.

Kneipp Herbal Bath in Valerian and Hops – I have yet to try the sample, but it looks quite nice! The packet was 0.3oz and is supposed to be a relaxing treatment with calming and essential oils that help prepare you for a good night’s sleep.

Snowberry Nourishing Lite Day Cream – This is the sample that I the most EXCITED to share with you guys. First of all, a full sized version of this cream is a 1.7oz bottle which runs for $95 – this means that my 0.10oz packet alone costs more then I paid for the box (it has about $5.59 worth of cream). Secondly, this cream is amazing! The sample I had was made for combination skin (which I have), and combines a wide range herbal of emollients and natural gums to deeply hydrate skin; as well as powerful amounts of antioxidants and collagen-boosting peptides, such as Co Enzyme Q10, to combat the signs of aging. It has a mild clean scent, not overpowering whatsoever, and it absorbed super fast into my skin. Plus, it wasn’t greasy at all – it’s a light cream that provides what I felt to be deep moisture and hydration for my skin. If I had the money, I would totally gift myself with a bottle of this for Christmas!

The products within The Editors’ Picks Sample Box from Beauty Change are subject to change, but based on this experience alone I’m already planning on buying a couple more boxes. I have a few family members that this would make an excellent gift for!

Comments are always welcome! Feel free to ask me any questions about this box, my experience with them, and anything else you might have some questions about!

August Favorites – The Hit List!

August has been a whirlwind month for me. Between BlogHer ’12, getting ready for back to school, and enjoying the last days of summer, I’ve managed to find so many new favorite products!

At the top of my list is the hottest toy at my house right now- the Perpluxus Epic 3D Puzzle! I can honestly attest to the fact that this game, despite being marketed to kids 8+, thoroughly appeals to puzzle-lovers of all ages. Picked up at the BlogHer ’12 swag echange at the Hilton, everybody in my house has had a go at solving it (although not everybody has actually solved it, including *cough, cough* yours truly). We love it, so if you’re looking for a game for a birthday, or if you’re already making a gameplan for Christmas – definitely look into getting your hands on one of these. Although, you should be careful, because if you drop it (or if it rolls off your bed, like ours did) – then a little piece could pop off the puzzle and render it semi-broken (like ours is).

The next item on my list is another product that I’ve absolutely fallen in love with, and that’s Kiss’ Impress Nails. This has already received a lot of hype all over the internet, in magazines, everywhere- but this is really one of those rare products that actually is deserving of all the hype surrounding it. So get your talons on a set of these, they’re perfect for when you’re on the go and want chip-proof, professional looking nails. Check out their designs, and get a $1 coupon here!

Have you ever purchased one really good-for-you sounding snack bar only to find that it’s chock full of sugar and carbs? Yeah, been there, done that. Rickland Orchards new Greek Yogurt Bar’s are the solution to your snacking woe’s (because there’s nothing worse than a snacking woe). Not only do they taste really really good (my favorite is the Cherry Almond one’s), but they only have 22 carbs, and boast 5 g’s of fiber (leaving your net carb at 17), and 7g’s of protein – which is pretty good as far as snack bars go.

I cannot get enough of the smell of the Apotheke:M Coconut Jasmine Enriched Body Creme- it’s definitely my favorite body creme right now. It has a nice coconut scent, without being heavy like most products with shea butter usually are. The jasmine acts as a toner, chamomile as a soother, argan oil as a emollient, and avocado and shea butter acts as moisturizers. I haven’t had a chance to try the whole line (which is priced at $8.99 a piece at Target), but if they’re as good as the creme then I’ll definitely purchase the whole set!

So that’s it for my August monthly favorites! Have you discovered any new products you love??? Let me know in the comments section below!

Rich Girl/Poor Girl: Summer Scents

I love perfume, but unfortunately my life has been a mixed bag of scented experiences. Born into a cloud of over-excited heady perfume using relatives, I grew up leaning towards more subtle, fresh, and sweet scents. Having experienced breathing in one to many mouthfuls of some of my relatives alcohol heavy cologne (which I’m sure may have caused some sort of brain damage), I was dissuaded from purchasing anything outside of light juvenile sprays. Luckily, during my high school years I attended school near a Sephora and was soon sampling all sorts of perfumes with a range of notes and scents – and I soon learned to appreciate the musky, floral, spicy scents that I once despised.

Feeling a little more up to snuff than my younger self in the scents department, here are the high end and low end options of my favorite summer scents!

The Garden Collection by Gucci

I’m a sucker for great lines of perfume, in fact one of my favorites happen to be the extensive DKNY Be Delicious series. But my favorite summer scents come from The Garden Collection by Gucci.

The first of this collection, Gorgeous Gardenia is a sensual perfume. There’s something warm and familiar about it’s scent, while also being light and floral- it’s quite an elegant smell. Gardenia, red berries, and pears gives this perfume its memorable scent.

The second, Gracious Tuberose has a sharper smell. Top notes of violet leaf, a heart of tuberose, and base notes of cistus and white cedarwood give this perfume a headier scent than the Gardenia. It’s the more mature scent of the collection.

The last scent of this collection, and my favorite of them all, is Glamorous Magnolia. This scent starts off smelling really fresh and light, but ends with a nice sweet sandalwood musk that I really just love. Citrus notes, with a lingering base of sandalwood and musk, leave this perfume and all the other ones from The Garden Collection by Gucci priced at $70 for a 1.7oz bottle.

Tahitian Orchid by Calgon, The Take Me Away! Collection…

I really really love the perfume version of this favorite Calgon scent. It has a sweet but fresh floral scent that really makes you feel bright and pretty. However, it can be pretty hard to find. Your best bet would be to go to your local KMart, Walmart, or other large department store and see if they have it in stock. If not, the body spray and lotion set is equally good – and will give the scent more staying power if you use it together- and it’s super easy to find at department stores and online. AVR $11 for a 1.5 fl oz bottle, or $15 for the body care set.

On either side of the price spectrum, any and all of these scents are a wonderful addition to any gals beauty and body care repertoire!

What are your favorite scents to wear? Do you strictly stick to one scent, or do you like to experiment? Let me know in the comments section below!

Sample Boxes: Why I Can’t Wait for the Mail

For as long as I remember “mail-time” has been one of my most favorite time of day. Even when I was too young to actually receive anything I used to get excited. Now that I’m older and I actually receive things in the mail, my most anticipated time of day has gotten even better.

However, I don’t always get things in the mail. And a month without anything but bills and maybe a couple of home decoration magazines doesn’t seem like much of a month at all. That’s why I’ve decided to subscribe to Subscription Sample Boxes. Yup, you read that right. I am going to pay for somebody to send me a box of samples. But these samples aren’t a bunch of scratch and sniff perfume cards (not that I don’t love those either). These companies go through the trouble of arranging a select number of premier samples, and sending them out to their customers in adorable packages. Among these (nineteen) Subscription Sample Box’s are box’s for foodies, make-up fans, and those looking for environmentally friendly, healthy products to test out. If they tell you that they’re all sold out, subscribe to an email update so you’ll know when they’re available again- act quick because they go fast!

Birchbox: The infamous subscription retail company has been featured on a just about every news platform out there from People to The Times- and for good reason. They deliver high end samples at $10 a box/month. Check out some happy customers YouTube vid’s here. Also, Birchbox is a NYC-based company- so yay Birchbox!

VoxBox: Now I’ve done my research and Voxbox has a lot of really good reviews. I just joined myself, but you should know that the box is part of a program called influenster. It’s a really great program that allows users to qualify for boxes and then review them- which creates a really good environment for active consumerism where users promote brands they love.

My Glam: The monthly glam bag sent to customers is fiLled with 4-5 samples of full-sized products and is paired with video’s created by stylists using the products included in the bag. At $10 a month- MyGlam is well worth a try and is a great opportunity for brand discovery.

Conscious Box: “Conscious Box is a monthly delivery of pure and sustainable products that are handpicked from businesses that care for the planet- just like you.” Conscious box is a little more expensive at $12 a month, plus $7 shipping- but has received some pretty positive reviews.

Julep Maven: Being a Julep Maven means that you get access to the beauty editor Sneak Peak Box created by Julep every month. The box is filled with the hottest trends in nail color and the latest mani/pedi care products. A subscription is $19.99 a month. Reviews here. For a limited time use the code COLOR2012 to get the box for $0.01!!!

Foodzie: Foodzie tasting boxes are run by the artisinal food site Foodzie. A tasting box for one month costs $29.95. These boxes make for great gifts, each box is carefully selected by the Foodzie team- which pretty much ensures a wide range of quality products.

GoGo Girlfriend: Right now gogo girlfriend is only allowing people to sign up on their waiting list. And for good reason. They’re notorious online for sending out great make-up sample boxes (especially to their premium members). If you happen to be able to score the chance to obtain membership- don’t hesitate. Basic membership is $6.99 a month (1 box every 2 months), premium is $12.99 a month (for a monthly box).

BlissmoBox: For $19 a month, you’ll get a box filled with organic eco-friendly products. What’s great about BlissmoBox is that you get to choose which box you want from a set of curated limited quantity box options. They also offer a “BreakBox” for non-junky office snacks.

Eco-Emi: Another “green” box, Eco-Emi offers a wide variety of eco-friendly products for $15 a month. Their packaging is supposed to be super adorable as well.

New beauty Test Tube: New Beauty’s test tube includes their magazine, various beauty samples, and a $50 gift card to Spalook.com all for $29.95- of all the sample subscription boxes. I’d have to say this one offers the best deal- the gift card alone pays for the cost of one month.

Beauty Army: Beauty Army gives you the option of choosing exactly what samples you want from their selection of products. With premium packaging, the Beauty Army box can arrive in your mailbox for $12 a month.

The Sample Lounge: The Sample Lounge gives you the option of being a yearly or monthy subscriber ($14.99 a month/$153.00 a year). Inside each of TSL’s sample boxes are 7 healthy beauty and skincare products.

Beauty Fix: Beauty Fix isn’t technically a “sample box”- they send out full size high end products chosen by a panel of experts specifically just for you. It’s still steal because $50 is a lot less then the combined total retail of the products they send you.

Glymm: Glymm, like a quite a few of these subscription programs, offers a points program that can be used to purchase products, or another box. Glymm conveniently allows users to pay for any number of months they want in one sitting as oppose to having your card charged monthly. 4 -5 Luxury samples are yours for only $10 a month.

Luxe Box: The Luxe Box is a sampling program created by Loosebutton.com, they also offer about 4-5 samples for $12 a month. As of now, Luxe Box is only available in Canada- but they’re working on going international.

GlossyBox: Another company also working on making it to the states- glossybox is currently allowing users to join the VIP Line for when they go live in the US. Sign up here!

Beauty Bar Sample Society: Beauty Bar has partnered with allure for this beauty sample offering. They include a monthly mini-mag, an allure subscription, and 4-5 deluxe sixed samples. At $15 a month, membership is limited.

Spirit Beauty Lounge Sample Boxes: Spirit Beauty Lounge’s sample boxes aren’t a part of a subscription service. However, you can choose from their available boxes based on your skin type. They also offer a deluxe sample kit that lets you choose the 10 samples tha you want.

Pink Moment: Pink Moment is very much like eco-emi. For $12 a month you get a box of natural or organic samples for you to try out.

White Apricot Green Grab Bag: “Get minis of the best natural, organic and vegan skin and hair care, make up, fragrance and more delivered right to your door for just $15 a month, and shipping is free!”

Quarterly Co.: I really love the subscription service that Quarterly provides! They allow you to choose what contributor that you want to subscribe to. They explain this better here. For $25 Quarterly allows a more personal, tailored experience for the customer. It’s so cool!

I just scored a subscription to Julep Maven- so stay tuned!
