NYC New York Color Liquid Lipshine in Nude York City!

I love lip gloss, it requires less maintenance than lipstick and I’ve always liked the glossy look of a good lip gloss. I received NYC New York Color Liquid Lipshine in Nude York City as a part of my Influenster Holiday VoxBox and I thought I’d share some of my thoughts on their Liquid Lipshine::

gloss1

NYC is one of my favorite drugstore cosmetic brands for a number of reasons. First of all, they have amazing prices and I can usually find them on sale at my local Rite Aid, Walgreens, or Duane Reade. Secondly, they generally have comparable cosmetics – and you can find quite a few dupes for high end makeup from them, which is great for any girl buying on a budget. And lastly, NYC pays homage in their product design and advertisements to my most favorite city and home – New York City!

Now about that lipshine, Nude York City is a versatile nude color. It has an almost peachy look to it, and has a generous amount of glitter and shine. On application it’s pretty sticky at first, but absorbs nicely into your lips and looks quite attractive. I have to tell you guys, I really love the wand for this gloss! It’s actually flexible, which is good for application and feels really good when you put it on!

Another thing I found when using this gloss is that it goes great over bright colored lipstick, and even colors that otherwise might not suit you. For instance, I have this limited edition red lipstick that I love the color of but never wear because it just doesn’t look well with my skin tone. When I applied Nude York City over the lipstick it smoothed down the color, and brought out the warm tones in the lipstick making it look better on me than without the lipshine.

NYC has loads of great colors in their Liquid Lipshine line (and they’re only about $2.25 each!), feel free to check them all out here – and check out their whole site and everything NYC New York Color has to offer by clicking here! Have you tried any of NYC’s products? Which ones were your favorites? Let me know in the comments below – I’d love to know which one to try next!

A Better Breakfast with Quaker Real Medleys Oatmeal+

During the week I don’t always manage to eat breakfast. I know, it’s terrible. But I’m determined now more than ever to get the most out of my mornings. Which means adding in a healthy breakfast into my routine. The only problem is that I’m probably the exact opposite of a morning person, I can sleep through pretty much anything, and after I wake up I won’t be coherent for another hour or two. So popping up to make a delicious but healthy breakfast is as realistic as me suddenly sprouting wings and flying (like those Red Bull commercials).

Quaker Real Medleys Apple Walnut Oatmeal

Thankfully, Quaker – a brand I grew up with, came out with their Real Medleys “instant” oatmeal. My mom was actually really excited about the Real Medleys line when it first hit stores, but for some reason or other we never actually got around to trying them, until I was sent one of the Real Medley’s in Apple Walnut in my Influenster Holiday VoxBox. So over the holiday week, I was super busy and therefore even less of a morning person than ever, I just popped it in the microwave and I was actually pretty darn surprised with how tasty it was!

I know the directions say to just add water and microwave, but I’m a lactose lover so I did a half milk half water mixture. To me milk makes everything creamier and better. SO if you’re like me and regularly add milk to your oatmeal, I’d suggest you edit the directions and add some milk.

Real Medleys comes in Cherry Pistachio, Peach Almond, Summer Berry, and Apple Walnut – which is the flavor that I tried. It’s really really yummy – and I promise I’m not just saying that. It literally tastes like a hug from the inside – it’s warm, not too sweet, the apple and cranberries add the perfect pop of flavor, and the walnuts give a great layer of texture to the oatmeal. So if you’re in the store, and you’re looking for a delicious, fast, and easy breakfast option totally pick up some of these because they’re so good and only about $1-2 each. Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin Review!

My little sister is a ballerina so buns are a pretty popular hair-style ‘round these parts. Personally, I don’t ever really sport a bun – my hair has always been too slippery to stay in place properly. I’m one of those people who hates to feel like my hair isn’t secure – which is why when my hair isn’t down, I often opt for a good ‘ol fashioned ponytail. However, I was pretty excited to try the Goody Spin Pin that I received in my Influenster Beauty Bloggers VoxBox- the pins looked so cool (and spinny – is that even a word?) that the allure of trying it out and attempting to put my hair in a bun was irresistible.

What you do is, you brush your hair up into a ponytail, then you curl/twist your hair around itself (or your finger) until you have a bun, then you tuck the tail end of your hair into your bun, holding the bun in place twist one spin pin downward from the top of your bun (you’ll want to actually twist this in, much like twisting a bottle cap close), then take the other pin and twist it upward from the bottom of your bun – that’s it! Viola- a perfect bun! Quick tip here – use a little hairspray before brushing your hair up, it helps tame frizz, fly-aways, and maintains the look longer. However, if my explanation doesn’t cut it, check out this vid here:

I have to say these spin pins are pretty darn cool – and what’s even better is that even slippery straight hair like mine will stay in! It creates a perfect, sturdy, chic bun – that even ballerina’s like my sister can appreciate! I already went to CVS and bought some for her – they make amazing stocking stuffers too! I’m happy to say that with the help of Goody’s Spin Pin I can actually appreciate the understated simplicity of a bun – its super cute, and totally keeps my hair out of my face! Love it!

The Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin retails at around $7.29 and comes in a light/dark hair variation. For more information check out Goody’s site here!

NYC New York Color IndividualEyes Custom Compact Review!

I was lucky enough to get to try the NYC New York Color IndividualEyes Custom Compact in Dark Shadows (0156-08) as a part of the Influenster Beauty Blogger Vox Box program. I’ve been an NYC cosmetics fan since their inception (way back when I was in middle school), and love their IndividualEyes Custom Compacts line.

Each compact includes an applicator, four shades of eyeshadow powder, a primer base, and an illuminator base. The Dark Shadows compact comes with shadows ranging from white to back, with a nice silver, and a rich grey in between- all of which I’ve swatched for you below! I really loved the shadows, they weren’t terribly pigmented – however, they were consistent and buildable which is great when you’re working with heavier colors like these.

I have pretty oily lids, so the primer base – which is creamy/oily, did nothing but crease on me. However, my sister has dryer lids and it worked nicely for her. I love the illuminator – it works as a great highlighter. It’s buildable, but you have to rub it in well. The compact also includes a convenient application guide – a great little detail that I just love!

Overall, it’s a great beauty find, and at such a great price it definitely deserves a spot in any beauty-lovers make-up collection! Each IndividualEyes Custom Compact retails at $4.99 in drugstores nationwide – which is a pretty great deal considering that you get four shadows plus a primer and highlighter. Check out NYC’s (New York Color) other offerings on their website here!
