Pixi by Petra’s Holiday Beauty Picks

It’s that time of year! I’m lucky enough to have gotten my mittens (have you broken yours out of storage yet? I sure have!) on Pixi’s newest holiday additions. Holiday collections are always so much fun in my opinion, as they always feature such creative designs. This year, Pixi’s holiday picks have this really beautiful holly and mistletoe design that feels like a lovely modern take on an old-school holiday motif. Honestly, I don’t know what it is about this year but I feel really nostalgic for old-school holidays – maybe I’ve watched Little Women too many times? Can one actually watch Little Women too many times? The answer to that is no. Anyways, enough about my Jo & Laurie obsession, here are Pixi’s prettiest under-the-tree treats and stocking stuffers:

If you’ve used Pixi before than you know that their Endless Silky Eye Pens are amazing. I used to say “they’re money!” in a very Guy Fieri-like manner, but then I was banned from using that term by my family when Guy Fieri became persona-non-grata after an over-enthused Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives binge-fest. It happens. Now I just say that these pens are amazing, and they are. Silky, ideal color payoff, warm blendability, and the color selection – which was great to start with – has now expanded to include this drool worthy rose gold color called OpalOvercoat. Stick it in your mother, daughter, co-worker, beauty addicted friend’s stocking. They will love it. You get a great rose-gold shade with this that is buildable and easy to work with.

The Palette Rosette is an all-in-one colour kit featuring highlighters, eye shadows, and brow shadows, as well as glow, blush, and contour in some very pretty shades. The contour powder looks like a warmer, subtly glowing, version of their Natural Contour Powder. The shadows themselves are very useful basics (the ones you always run out of), great for travel, my sister asked for this in her wishlist – she’s not a big fan of having to root through her makeup bag in the morning and wants a palette like this to streamline her process. It is new to their collection, and I’m not entirely sure if it’s a holiday exclusive – so I would snap it up now just in case.

The real pièce de résistance is the new Fairy Dust Favorites. A tower of high pigmented loose shadows, Fairy Dust Favorites come in two varieties – Metallic Warmth and Matte Classics. I love, love, love that Pixi has Matte Classics – as you know glitter and shimmer is not always ideal, especially if you have more delicate eyelids, so Pixi including this collection of five matte loose eyeshadow pigments scores major points in my book. I was sent Metallic Warmth, which features these beauties:

As you can see, these colors are really rich and beautiful. They show up in tone and in person almost exactly as they look in this pic, with the added metallic dimension. I must admit, was a little apprehensive about the black pigment. I feel like if you buy even the most basic of palettes, you’ll get black eyeshadow. I have so many black eyeshadows that getting another one is not a thrill for me. BUT this pigment does not show up as pure black for me. It has more depth and comes out as this smoky gunmetal that actually makes this shade a completely new one for me. It’s really fun to play with, especially with the deep red and bronze pigments. Speaking of which, I spilled the red all over myself. I looked like the victim of some unfortunate accident and I was utterly devastated that I lost half of the eyeshadow in one go. Somehow I will pick myself up and find a way to soldier on.

If you only get one thing from Pixi from this post, get the Fairy Dust Favorites. I already plan on purchasing the Matte Classics and can see myself repurchasing the Metallic Warmth (especially after the spill!). If you’re buying for someone else, definitely give the palette a look – the value and quality is definitely worth it. And if you’re just looking for a guaranteed winner – that rose gold eyeliner is too cute to ignore.

Anything catch your eye?

New Summer & Fall Beauty Launches at Target!

A few weeks ago I was invited to preview the latest and greatest heading to the Target beauty aisles. You all know me, I’m obsessed with Target, I would live there if I could. Luckily for Target & beauty junkies like me, they have a plethora of exciting new launches heading our way this Summer and Fall! Here’s a quick rundown:

sonia kashuk spring

Sonia Kashuk, who has been creating beauty for Target since 1999 is releasing the full fall limited edition collection, new core collection items and cosmetic bags on August 21st. New products being added to the core collection include a six pan eye palette, eye shadow quad, new Instant Smoke Sticks (pictured below) in Gunsmoke and Brown Blaze, a line of Soft Focus Satin Matte Foundation, new nail colors, and an Air-Brushed Skin Five-Piece Brush Set. The limited edition collection features an Exotic Artisan 12-pc brush set, Earth 6-pc brush set, Exotic Artisan Vanity Cup, and a new Completely Organized Bag.

I got to play a little with the new Instant Smoke Sticks, and they are absolutely gorgeous. The colors are staples, but the formulation is really rich and perfect for taking on the go, or even just simplifying your routine. Sonia Kashuk cosmetic bags are my all-time favorite cosmetic bags, the quality and designs available are always on point and their new releases are no exception. They’ll be releasing three new designs, Artwork, Purple Floral, and Blue Floral in most cosmetic case styles.

PIXI by Petra, if you’ve been around here long enough you know that PIXI is a brand that I hold dear to my heart. I consistently hit the bottom of the pan/tube/bottle with PIXI products – they just are so good that I use them extremely often and always consistently. Available this month, on June 26th, the PIXI fall collection includes: Best of Bright Kit, Endless Silky Eye Pen in Graphic Griege and Opal Overcoat, their iconic Glow Tonic – now in easy to use pads as Glow Tonic To-Go, Lash Line Ink in Velvet Cocoa, Lash Nourish Makeup Remover Pads, Lower Lash Mascara, LipLift Mas in Sheer Rose and Honey Sheen, and new Multibalm!

PIXI’s very own Petra Strand (the makeup artist and creator behind the brand) was there as well, I got to share with her how obsessed I am with PIXI products and how excited I am to see that they now have Glow Tonic in facial pads. She was seriously the most lovely person, she even helped me adjust the products for my photos!

Defy and Inspire Nail Lacquer

I also had my nails done with Target’s exclusive defy & INSPIRE long-wearing nail lacquer. New shades hit stores this past May and include colors Carnival Daisy, Main Stage, Rave Red-y, Electro-chic, Ultra Teal, and Plur-ple. My polish lasted well over two weeks without any chipping at all. I have never been so impressed with a polish before, and at $7.49 a bottle I cannot wait to pick up the rest of the collection next time I’m in Target.

Beauty Counter for Target

And last but not least, perhaps one of the more exciting beauty industry news, Beautycounter for Target. Founded in 2013 by Gregg Renfrew, Beautycounter is a beauty and personal care brand known for using safer, cleaner ingredients. Mark your calendars for September 12th! The new limited-edition Beautycounter for Target collection will feature a curated assortment of the brand’s most popular cosmetics and skincare products in special sizes and exclusive sets as well as one entirely new item – the Nourishing Oil.

I am so ridiculously excited about this collection. Beautycounter is a brand that, to me at least, does beauty right and I’m thrilled to see that they’ll be available in Target this fall. The collection will range in price from $12 to $39 and feature 12 products, and 5 different sets.

So what are you excited to pick up at Target this summer/fall?

Target Beauty Box Review

So recently Target ran a promo where a certain number of people could purchase through their TargetStyle facebook page what I assume is Target’s beta testing on their own beauty subscription box. Luckily I was able to score one, and based on what I received in my box I sincerely hope that Target starts their own subscription service (and hopefully keeps it reasonably priced – this box was $5, which was awesome)!

TargetBeautyBox1

Here’s what was inside:

TargetBeautyBox2

Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips (ARV $8.99) in 470 LUST-ROUS. I actually think that these strips are really very pretty – very “night on the town” appropriate.

TargetBeautyBox3

Sample packets of La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo and L’Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier B.B. Cream. I am already a tremendous fan of L’Oreal Magic B.B. Cream – I bought the cream when it initially came out and have been a fan since. The sample was in the light shade, and since I have a tan right now I gave the sample to my mom who has very fair skin. As for the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo – I’ve heard great things and can’t wait to give it a try!

TargetBeautyBox4

Fekkai Glossing Cream (2 oz – an ARV of around $10): my sister is a huge fan, but I’ve never tried it myself. It’s supposed to “add a dazzling touch to your hair” and also “adds brilliant shine and helps eliminate frizz”.

TargetBeautyBox5

And last but certainly not least, a Gillette Venus and Olay Razor (ARV $11) in their new Sugarberry scent. I LOVE the original Venus and Olay razors – in fact they are my favorite razors, my razor standard upon which I measure all other razors – and I’m really excited to try their new version!

They also dropped in a $3 off $15 coupon in there, but it expired within a couple days of getting my box – which sucks because I would have definitely put it to good use!

Verdict: Loved this box, would even buy the same exact box again in a New York minute. It’s not a deal breaker, but I do wish the coupon had had a later expiration date. Based on this box, I think Target could give other subscription box services a run for their money – the value of this box was unbeatable.

Make sure you follow me on facebook and/or twitter – I promise to keep you updated if Target opens subscriptions to a beauty box!
