POPSUGAR NatureBox Review

For those of you who don’t know, I’m a massive POPSUGAR fan – I especially love their subscription POPSUGAR Must Have box. Every now and then they also do limited edition select boxes, and being a POPSUGAR Select Beauty Blogger, I was lucky enough to receive one such box. The box I was sent is a part of POPSUGAR Must Have’s recent partnership with NatureBox – another subscription service which I know and love – so I figured putting the concept behind these two boxes together was going to be a winning formula!

The POPSUGAR Must Have Snacks box included six various snack options including: Dried Peaches, Blueberry Almond Bites, Lemon Pucker Pistachios, Seaweed Rice Pops, and a special POPSUGAR Must Have Mix.

Firstly, I’m just going to put this out there, the whole selection is perfect for welcoming in the summer. From the Dried Peaches – which would be perfect as a garnish for a fizzy drink, to the Blueberry Almond Bites – which are great on the fly – I think all six bags were perfect snacking options.

The great thing is that if you’re not into diving straight into the snacks and eating them by themselves by the handful (unlike me, haha!), you can also incorporate some of them into fun meals. For instance, I restrained myself and saved the Lemon Pucker Pistachios for the next time I make soba noodles, and oriental chicken salad – they’re so going to add the perfect pop of nuttiness and citrus to both dishes!

My favorite of all six snacks was the POPSUGAR Must Have Mix – it was so good, I wish I had more! Thanks POPSUGAR & NatureBox!

PeachDish Review!

I have always been really sceptical about those monthly food services. I always feel like either the food will be bad, or the recipes complicated, and it all just seemed like an expensive hassle. Well, I finally bit the bullet and tried PeachDish. I had a coupon code from an amazing food & editors event called Food Fete (look out for a recap!) that I attended, I quickly submitted my order and was pleasantly surprised when my PeachDish box was delivered shortly after.

PeachDish Review

My box included everything I needed to make two dinners, one being Lemon-Dill Chicken and Orzo Soup with Homemade Pita Chips with Herb Goat Cheese, and the other being Kale Salad with Pecans and Kumquats, and Pecan Crusted Mahi Mahi with Potato and Turnip Mash with Horseradish. I made a quick video of the cooking process involved with the first dinner so you can see how ridiculously easy the recipe was and just how tasty the soup looked!

I was so surprised with the Homemade Pita Chips with Herb Goat cheese, it was a really simple throw together part of the meal so I know how ridiculous it sounds but really, the pita chips were easy to make, crunchy, and so perfect with the goat cheese. The Herb Goat Cheese is actually from Vermont Creamery. I actually never been a big fan of goat cheese until now – it was really creamy, bright and tart without being overwhelmingly so. I’ve already hunted it down at Fairway so I can make the meal again.

Vermont Creamery Herb Goat Cheese

The soup! I swear I’ve made the Lemon-Dill Chicken and Orzo Soup at least four times since I tasted the first one. So good! I know the recipe by heart now, I mean, you could seriously stop me in the middle of the street and I could tell you how to make it right off the top of my head. I never thought I’d say this but it’s even better then Panera’s Lemon Chicken Orzo Soup – by far! The crazy thing about it is that it has so much great flavor – the leeks and carrots, chicken, and the lemon and fresh dill – it tastes like a hug from inside, and it’s insanely easy to make.

Unfortunately I wasn’t as thrilled with the Pecan Crusted Mahi Mahi. Maybe because I was spoiled by the soup, but I just didn’t get a lot of exciting flavor from the Mahi Mahi. However, the Potato and Turnip Mash was good, I would definitely make it again – maybe with some steak and a salad.

Pecan Crusted Mahi Mahi

Speaking of salad, I really liked the Kale Salad with Pecans and Kumquats. I made the mistake of not cutting off the kale stems so my jaw got one hell of a workout, and I didn’t let the salad sit long enough to let the kale soften. But other then that it’s a very healthy, bright salad that’s easy to throw together.

Kale Salad with Pecans and Kumquats

I would definitely order another PeachDish box – it was so exciting learning new recipes and discovering a couple favorites. I love that they packaged each dinner’s ingredients seperately and with care and feel like if you’re single or living with a roommate or are even just interested in learning a few new recipes, PeachDish is the way to go!

They deliver weekly, and you can even pay via amazon! Click here for more information on PeachDish as well as all the recipes they’ve already featured!

Target Beauty Box Review

So recently Target ran a promo where a certain number of people could purchase through their TargetStyle facebook page what I assume is Target’s beta testing on their own beauty subscription box. Luckily I was able to score one, and based on what I received in my box I sincerely hope that Target starts their own subscription service (and hopefully keeps it reasonably priced – this box was $5, which was awesome)!

Here’s what was inside:

Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips (ARV $8.99) in 470 LUST-ROUS. I actually think that these strips are really very pretty – very “night on the town” appropriate.

Sample packets of La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo and L’Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier B.B. Cream. I am already a tremendous fan of L’Oreal Magic B.B. Cream – I bought the cream when it initially came out and have been a fan since. The sample was in the light shade, and since I have a tan right now I gave the sample to my mom who has very fair skin. As for the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo – I’ve heard great things and can’t wait to give it a try!

Fekkai Glossing Cream (2 oz – an ARV of around $10): my sister is a huge fan, but I’ve never tried it myself. It’s supposed to “add a dazzling touch to your hair” and also “adds brilliant shine and helps eliminate frizz”.

And last but certainly not least, a Gillette Venus and Olay Razor (ARV $11) in their new Sugarberry scent. I LOVE the original Venus and Olay razors – in fact they are my favorite razors, my razor standard upon which I measure all other razors – and I’m really excited to try their new version!

They also dropped in a $3 off $15 coupon in there, but it expired within a couple days of getting my box – which sucks because I would have definitely put it to good use!

Verdict: Loved this box, would even buy the same exact box again in a New York minute. It’s not a deal breaker, but I do wish the coupon had had a later expiration date. Based on this box, I think Target could give other subscription box services a run for their money – the value of this box was unbeatable.

Make sure you follow me on facebook and/or twitter – I promise to keep you updated if Target opens subscriptions to a beauty box!

NYC New York Color Liquid Lipshine in Nude York City!

I love lip gloss, it requires less maintenance than lipstick and I’ve always liked the glossy look of a good lip gloss. I received NYC New York Color Liquid Lipshine in Nude York City as a part of my Influenster Holiday VoxBox and I thought I’d share some of my thoughts on their Liquid Lipshine::

NYC is one of my favorite drugstore cosmetic brands for a number of reasons. First of all, they have amazing prices and I can usually find them on sale at my local Rite Aid, Walgreens, or Duane Reade. Secondly, they generally have comparable cosmetics – and you can find quite a few dupes for high end makeup from them, which is great for any girl buying on a budget. And lastly, NYC pays homage in their product design and advertisements to my most favorite city and home – New York City!

Now about that lipshine, Nude York City is a versatile nude color. It has an almost peachy look to it, and has a generous amount of glitter and shine. On application it’s pretty sticky at first, but absorbs nicely into your lips and looks quite attractive. I have to tell you guys, I really love the wand for this gloss! It’s actually flexible, which is good for application and feels really good when you put it on!

Another thing I found when using this gloss is that it goes great over bright colored lipstick, and even colors that otherwise might not suit you. For instance, I have this limited edition red lipstick that I love the color of but never wear because it just doesn’t look well with my skin tone. When I applied Nude York City over the lipstick it smoothed down the color, and brought out the warm tones in the lipstick making it look better on me than without the lipshine.

NYC has loads of great colors in their Liquid Lipshine line (and they’re only about $2.25 each!), feel free to check them all out here – and check out their whole site and everything NYC New York Color has to offer by clicking here! Have you tried any of NYC’s products? Which ones were your favorites? Let me know in the comments below – I’d love to know which one to try next!

Goody QuikStyle Review

I have pretty long wavy/straight hair – and usually it takes quite a while for my hair to air dry. And recently I’ve been trying to lay off of the heat products just for the sake of keeping my hair from getting irrevocably damaged, plus curling/ironing my hair takes a lot more time than I have these days.

So when Influenster sent me the Goody Quikstyle paddle brush I was really interested in trying a product that claimed it would not only dry my hair faster, but would also help me style it- without heat. Now I normally will roll and pin my hair in a bath towel after my shower in the hopes that it’ll absorb some of that moisture. The starring feature for the Goody Quikstyle brush is that it has absorbent microfiber bristles that work to absorb about 30% of water in your hair – which makes for even faster styling!

Not only to the microfiber bristles absorb some of that excess water, but they’re made with an antibacterial microfiber that keeps the brush clean – although you’ll also want to cleanse it regularly, and when you do make sure to tap the back of the brush to rejuvenate the bristles.

I really enjoyed the design of the brush and found that despite it’s bulky appearance it was not only effective in soaking up water from my hair, and even significantly reducing frizz, but it also felt good in my hand. Turns out, this brush was designed to be lightweight, but effective (with rear-screen ventilation) – while avoiding hand fatigue. The bristles seemed flat after a couple uses, so to remove the hair I ran a fine tooth comb between the rows, which removed stray strands and then I rinsed the brush itself, turning it over and tapping the back until the bristles stood at attention again – it was like new!

The Goody Quikstyle Brush comes in a paddle version – the one I tried, and a convex half-round shape. You can find out more about the brushes here, and if my review hasn’t convinced you that this brush is amazing then please feel free to check out what other Influensters had to say about the Quikstyle brush here! Thanks for reading, and if you have any questions at all about the brush and my experience with it then just drop me a comment below!

EBOOST, for natural, long-lasting energy!

There are a zillion and one energy products out there on the market. But EBOOST is one of the few that boasts natural ingredients that provide a LASTING energy boost. I was always wary of energy drinks and supplements – I never knew exactly what was in them and I completely dreaded the crash that inevitably followed.

I actually have tried EBOOST before and the taste was alright – it was the orange one, and while I appreciated the boost of energy I just couldn’t imagine drinking it every time I needed some energy. Luckily in the Holiday VoxBox from Influenster I had a chance to try the Pink Lemondade version. The pink lemonade has a far better flavor – and if you’ve had energy drinks before then you know how hard it is to find an energy drink that tastes drinkable let alone good. I should warn you, it does have a bitter aftertaste, it doesn’t last long at all, but really just tastes like orange rind.

The packet advises that you mix it in with 12oz of water. Initially I mixed it with 12 oz, using the mason jars I bought (thanks Pinterest!) but ended up moving it to a larger pitcher because it was a little too sweet for my tastes and I wanted to add some more water. So personally, I’d mix it with like 20oz of ice cold water. It fizzes up like soda in the beginning, but then dies down a bit and tastes only subtly carbonated.

I would definitely recommend EBOOST to athletes, people who exercise- like when you need a boost before starting your cardio routine at home, and definitely students. I know I have a super full semester this Spring and I’ll definitely be needing an extra boost. I used my EBOOST when I had to pull an all-nighter and it keep me feeling awake enough that I powered through the night. But what I love most about EBOOST is that it gives you natural energy that lasts and contains vitamins and super nutrients like Vitamin C,  Vitamin D, and B-12! That to me is definitely a winning formula!

To check out more EBOOST reviews, check out Influenster’s EBOOST page or check out the EBOOST website here for more info!

A Better Breakfast with Quaker Real Medleys Oatmeal+

During the week I don’t always manage to eat breakfast. I know, it’s terrible. But I’m determined now more than ever to get the most out of my mornings. Which means adding in a healthy breakfast into my routine. The only problem is that I’m probably the exact opposite of a morning person, I can sleep through pretty much anything, and after I wake up I won’t be coherent for another hour or two. So popping up to make a delicious but healthy breakfast is as realistic as me suddenly sprouting wings and flying (like those Red Bull commercials).

Quaker Real Medleys Apple Walnut Oatmeal

Thankfully, Quaker – a brand I grew up with, came out with their Real Medleys “instant” oatmeal. My mom was actually really excited about the Real Medleys line when it first hit stores, but for some reason or other we never actually got around to trying them, until I was sent one of the Real Medley’s in Apple Walnut in my Influenster Holiday VoxBox. So over the holiday week, I was super busy and therefore even less of a morning person than ever, I just popped it in the microwave and I was actually pretty darn surprised with how tasty it was!

real medleys

I know the directions say to just add water and microwave, but I’m a lactose lover so I did a half milk half water mixture. To me milk makes everything creamier and better. SO if you’re like me and regularly add milk to your oatmeal, I’d suggest you edit the directions and add some milk.

real medleys instagram pic

Real Medleys comes in Cherry Pistachio, Peach Almond, Summer Berry, and Apple Walnut – which is the flavor that I tried. It’s really really yummy – and I promise I’m not just saying that. It literally tastes like a hug from the inside – it’s warm, not too sweet, the apple and cranberries add the perfect pop of flavor, and the walnuts give a great layer of texture to the oatmeal. So if you’re in the store, and you’re looking for a delicious, fast, and easy breakfast option totally pick up some of these because they’re so good and only about $1-2 each. Love with Food: December 2012

I was super happy to receive my December Love with Food box! Love with Food was so on the money this month- I even ended up discussing LwF and their December box in the middle of a twitter party the other day. Suffice it to say, LwF has many fans in the twittersphere.

So here’s what was in this month’s box: Honey Cinnamon Almonds from Nunes Farms, Holiday Salt Water Taffy from Taffy Town, Belgian Milk Chocolate-Dipped Nutter Butter from the Big Chocolate Dipper, Candy Cane Truffles from Kara Chocolates, Mocha Mint Cappuccino from Hills Brothers, Gingerbread Boy from Nikki’s Cookies, Chocolate Tasting Squares from Madecasse, Fleur de Sel Caramel Popcorn 479 Popcorn.

Now I totally get that the Honey Cinnamon Almonds from Nunes Farms is a simple treat – but oh boy did those almonds pack some seriously yummy flavor. They seriously tasted like a warm bowl of cinnamon oatmeal or avena (a Hispanic version of oatmeal). I definitely see myself buying these in the near future, and would gladly swap in these almonds as a healthy breakfast alternative!

My younger brother (Shawn) ate up all the salt water taffy, and he’s a super picky sweets eater – so they must’ve been amazing! I was not a big fan of the chocolate tasting squares from Madecasse, maybe it was just the one that I tried – it didn’t have a lot of chocolate flavor and felt like it was high in cocoa butter. However, my older sister loved the squares so I’m willing to give Madecasse the benefit of the doubt. The candy cane truffles from Kara Chocolates were soooo good – I already purchased some from the LwF store!

I’ve always been a massive fan of Nutter Butter, so seeing one dipped in Belgian milk chocolate pretty much did it for me. I loved it, and am totally planning on purchasing some in the future (I think they’re already sold out on the LwF shop). I’m saving my Mocha Mint Cappuccino mix for Christmas vacation, but it sounds amazing. The whiter chocolate gingerbread boy was also delish – the white chocolate base melded deliciously with the spicy kick of ginger. It would be absolutely perfect with a cup of tea in my opinion.

The 479 Fluer de Sel Caramel Popcorn was one of my favorite items from the box – everyone in my family are now massive fans of this light, sweet & salty treat – I can hardly believe that popcorn this yummy is only 100 calories! If you see it in any store near you, please please please try it I promise you won’t regret it!

So what do you think? Have you tried any of these products before? Do you subscribe to LwF? What did you think of this month’s box?

If you don’t yet have a Love with Food subscription and would love to try it out please click here for more deets and to subscribe! For $10 a month you not only get a box full of yummy treats, but for every box purchased LwF donates a meal to hungry children in America! Makes a great holiday gift as well!

Love with Food: November 2012

This month’s Love with Food box was curated by TLC star Amy Roloff (of “Little People, Big World”) and was fairly packed with some pretty darn good treats! This box had a Thanksgiving theme that was pretty cute, and included 8 product samples – which is more than most boxes will include. Anyways, without further ado, here is what was in Love with Food’s November box:

A Dark Chocolate Truffle Piglet from Hagensborg Chocolates, Inka Corn from Inka Crops, Chocolate Chunk Cookies from Skeeter Snacks, Mango Pear Pineapple squeezable snack from Fruit.o, Mini Blueberry Almond Crunch from Mrs.May’s, Turkey Bak Kwa Jerky from Little Red Dot Kitchen, Original Mulling Spices Blend from the Aspen Mulling Co., and Pumpkin Spice Decaf. Tea from Stash Tea Company.

Out of this whole box there was only two brands that I was already familiar with – which is great, because Love with Food is essentially a food discovery subscription box service. Now I am already a massive fan of Stash Tea, and always have some in my cupboards nowadays. But I had yet to try their new seasonal Pumpkin spice tea – which I absolutely fell in love with! It tastes like thanksgiving in a cup. I also knew about Skeeter Snacks. I had discovered them in the swag exchange room at BlogHer and cannot get enough of these totally nut-free cookies- so even though I had tried them before, I was super thrilled to see them featured in this month’s box!

The Inka Corn is really really yummy – it gives you plenty of tactile stimulation, and tastes like movie theatre popcorn! Harvested from non-GMO crops, Inka Corn has only three ingredients (corn, palm olein, and sea salt) and makes a great snack. My mom also has a Love with Food subscription, so I was able to pilfer her Truffle Pig and try both the dark chocolate and milk chocolate versions – the packaging and truffle shape is adorable, and the chocolate was pretty good too (the dark one has a stronger, more chocolate taste).

I have yet to try the turkey jerky and mulled spice blend – I’m saving the spices for Thanksgiving apple cider! The Mrs.May’s mini crunch had great packaging, and the product was cut into perfect little squares – but I can’t say that I was overly impressed with its taste or flavor. And the Fruit.o was great, I’m such a big fan of squeezable fruit since I tried the GoGo Squeeze in last month’s LwF box so I was thrilled to try a new brand this month. Fruit.o is almost like the grown-up version of GoGo Squeeze, they’re both super yummy and super convenient.

Altogether the box was amazing – so kudos to Amy Roloff and LwF! Want to try out Love with Food for yourself??? Now until 11/30 you can use the code ‘HOLIDAY12’ and get $5 off any Love with Food subscription plan! That means you would get your first box for only $7!!! It would be super if you could use my referral link here if you decide to give LwF a try!

I can’t wait to see what LwF has in store for December – to see my review for their December box, make sure you subscribe via email, twitter, and/or facebook and never miss an update! Comments are always welcome!

Kiss Ever PRO Lash Starter Kit Review

I’ve probably mentioned Kiss a zillion times on this blog before – but when you find a brand that provides quality for an amazing price, then you stick with it. So, I’ve always been a major fan of Kiss’ lashes and lash glue – but I never before tried their Ever Pro line, until my Influenster Beauty Blogger VoxBox.

I really love these lashes, the glue is stable, latex-free, and long lasting. And the lashes are lush, glamorous, made of 100% human hair, and don’t irritate my eyes at all. Plus the pink applicator is really helpful, and makes lash application a breeze!

The Ever Pro lashes are really lush – definitely event worthy lashes. I wouldn’t wear them on a day to day basis – as that would look sort of overdone and garish. However, nights out, gatherings, parties and other events where looking glam is a priority are perfect opportunities to don these lashes.

When opening the package, you don’t want to use the pink applicator/tweezers to take the lashes off – what you want to do is bend back at the cut portion and peel off with your fingers. Then be sure to apply enough lash glue to the lashes – too little glue and your lashes won’t stay on long. Wait 10-15 seconds, or until the glue is tacky. Then, using a mirror and the pink applicator tweezers, apply the lashes as close to your lash line as possible. You want to apply them as close to your lash line as you can so that it doesn’t look obvious that you’re wearing falsies – you want your lashes to look as natural as possible.

These are super easy to apply, and really give you the appearance of having super long, thick, glamorous Hollywood –style lashes! I’m definitely stocking it in my beauty collection, and am sooo glad that I had the chance to try them! For more details on the lashes and all the great products Kiss offers, check out their website here!
