EBOOST, for natural, long-lasting energy!

There are a zillion and one energy products out there on the market. But EBOOST is one of the few that boasts natural ingredients that provide a LASTING energy boost. I was always wary of energy drinks and supplements – I never knew exactly what was in them and I completely dreaded the crash that inevitably followed.

I actually have tried EBOOST before and the taste was alright – it was the orange one, and while I appreciated the boost of energy I just couldn’t imagine drinking it every time I needed some energy. Luckily in the Holiday VoxBox from Influenster I had a chance to try the Pink Lemondade version. The pink lemonade has a far better flavor – and if you’ve had energy drinks before then you know how hard it is to find an energy drink that tastes drinkable let alone good. I should warn you, it does have a bitter aftertaste, it doesn’t last long at all, but really just tastes like orange rind.

eboost10

The packet advises that you mix it in with 12oz of water. Initially I mixed it with 12 oz, using the mason jars I bought (thanks Pinterest!) but ended up moving it to a larger pitcher because it was a little too sweet for my tastes and I wanted to add some more water. So personally, I’d mix it with like 20oz of ice cold water. It fizzes up like soda in the beginning, but then dies down a bit and tastes only subtly carbonated.

I would definitely recommend EBOOST to athletes, people who exercise- like when you need a boost before starting your cardio routine at home, and definitely students. I know I have a super full semester this Spring and I’ll definitely be needing an extra boost. I used my EBOOST when I had to pull an all-nighter and it keep me feeling awake enough that I powered through the night. But what I love most about EBOOST is that it gives you natural energy that lasts and contains vitamins and super nutrients like Vitamin C,  Vitamin D, and B-12! That to me is definitely a winning formula!

Beauty Blogger VoxBox Review!

If you’ve been keeping up with my most recent posts, you might have noticed that a few of my reviews mentioned that I received the featured product by way of my Beauty Blogger VoxBox- and I just wanted to share the full details on what was inside my Beauty Blogger VoxBox as well as my overall impression with you guys :)

Inside my Beauty Bloggers VoxBox I received an NYC New York Color IndividualEyes Limited Edition Compact, Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin, a Bath & Body Works Fall Mini-Candle, Kiss Ever Pro Lash Starter Kit, a sample/travel sized tube of Not Your Mother’s Kinky Moves Curl Defining Hair Cream, samples of Boots No7 Beautiful Skin Cleanser and Night Cream for Normal/Dry skin, and a packet of eBoost supplement.

The box was stocked generously with some pretty impressive products that I just knew I’d love – I thought I’d include my general impression  of each product, but please feel free to click on each products name for my full review/run down!

NYC New York Color IndividualEyes Limited Edition Compact: I loved the dark colors that Influenster sent my way. I was already in the market for grey eyeshadow to complete a smoky eye look that I was going for, so I was pleased to receive this compact. The color payoff was great, and my one complaint is that the included primer was too oily. Other than that, the IndividualEyes is a great compact with an even greater price.

Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin: I’ve been using these spin pins since I received them – that’s how much I love them. They’re super easy to use, and don’t pull on my hair like ponytails do. They’re great stocking stuffers!

Bath & Body Works Fall Mini-Candle: I received the White Barn No.1 in Nutmeg and Spice and I flat out did not enjoy this candle. It gave me a terrible headache and smelled too thick and heady. However, using the coupon included in my VoxBox, combined with a sale on B&BW’s website I was able to score quite a few mini candles (see the full post for my review of each scent here) and since that post, have burned half of them through. My favorites are Autumn, ‘Tis the Season, and Cinnamon Sugared Donut.

Kiss Ever PRO Lash Starter Kit: I loved these lashes – easy to apply, and ultra glamorous, what more could a girl ask for???

Not Your Mother’s Kinky Moves Curl Defining Hair Cream: If you get a chance to buy/try this cream then please do! I loved how well this cream worked (teaser: there are pic’s in my full review here!) and still can’t get over how fun it is to have beautiful, envy-worthy curls!

Boots No7 Beautiful Skin Cleanser and Night Cream for Normal/Dry skin: I’ve long heard of this brand and was completely thrilled to finally have a chance to try it. Boots No7 definitely lives up to the hype and I totally plan on trying more of their makeup and skincare offerings.

I have to say- I really really loved this box. I do review a lot of beauty products on here, so getting to try news ones and letting you know if they’re worth the hype is always a treat! I loved discovering a new cleanser and lotion, and using the spin pin, and even getting some curls out of my hair with Not Your Mother’s Kinky Moves Curl Defining Hair Cream – so if you’re active on social media and would be interested in the Influenster VoxBox program, leave me your email address in the comments below! Boots No7 for Beautiful Skin!

I’ve heard about Boot’s for years now, but didn’t see any of their products in US store until recently in Target – where they have become more widely available. And while the US has been slow to distribute the beauty brand, Boots has been a staple for over 160 years in the UK – and the No7 brand is the number 1 cosmetics and skincare brand in the UK! So you can bet that I was pretty darn excited to receive a sample of Boots No7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Lotion and Beautiful Skin Night Cream (both for Normal/Dry Skin) in my Beauty Bloggers VoxBox!

The Night Cream claims to energize and help promote optimum hydration for healthy radiant skin. Now I have super sensitive acne prone skin, so I’m always wary of products promising to hydrate my skin- because I usually end up doing an emergency pore cleansing mask afterwards to deal with breakouts caused by overly-thick creams. However, no joke, the No7 Beautiful Skin Night Cream was as light as silk and left my skin feeling like a baby’s! It has a subtle scent that I found to be quite nice and not overbearing at all. Also, the cream absorbs really well into the skin – so you won’t have any oily residue left behind or anything.

I actually never understood cleansing lotions before my experience with Boot’s No7 Beautiful Skin one. I usually scrub the makeup off my face using makeup wipes, wash up with my foaming cleanser and call it a night. However, makeup wipes tend to be really abrasive and leave my eyelids dry and red – and never fully rid me of my makeup on its own. But this No7 Cleansing Lotion is where it’s at! It was super light, and literally took all my makeup off in one shot. It doesn’t really have any scent, and you just apply the tiniest bit to your eye/face rub it around and then wipe off. No dry, red eyes and no makeup! I used it to rid my hand of eyeshadow when I was taking photos for my NYC Individual Eyes swatch and review – it worked like a charm!

I’m really loving these two products and can’t wait to try the rest of Boot’s No7 skincare line, as well as their makeup offerings – you can find out more about Boot’s and what they offer here!

Have you had any experience with Boot’s and their cosmetics and skincare products??? Let me know in the comments below!

Love with Food: November 2012

This month’s Love with Food box was curated by TLC star Amy Roloff (of “Little People, Big World”) and was fairly packed with some pretty darn good treats! This box had a Thanksgiving theme that was pretty cute, and included 8 product samples – which is more than most boxes will include. Anyways, without further ado, here is what was in Love with Food’s November box:

A Dark Chocolate Truffle Piglet from Hagensborg Chocolates, Inka Corn from Inka Crops, Chocolate Chunk Cookies from Skeeter Snacks, Mango Pear Pineapple squeezable snack from Fruit.o, Mini Blueberry Almond Crunch from Mrs.May’s, Turkey Bak Kwa Jerky from Little Red Dot Kitchen, Original Mulling Spices Blend from the Aspen Mulling Co., and Pumpkin Spice Decaf. Tea from Stash Tea Company.

Out of this whole box there was only two brands that I was already familiar with – which is great, because Love with Food is essentially a food discovery subscription box service. Now I am already a massive fan of Stash Tea, and always have some in my cupboards nowadays. But I had yet to try their new seasonal Pumpkin spice tea – which I absolutely fell in love with! It tastes like thanksgiving in a cup. I also knew about Skeeter Snacks. I had discovered them in the swag exchange room at BlogHer and cannot get enough of these totally nut-free cookies- so even though I had tried them before, I was super thrilled to see them featured in this month’s box!

The Inka Corn is really really yummy – it gives you plenty of tactile stimulation, and tastes like movie theatre popcorn! Harvested from non-GMO crops, Inka Corn has only three ingredients (corn, palm olein, and sea salt) and makes a great snack. My mom also has a Love with Food subscription, so I was able to pilfer her Truffle Pig and try both the dark chocolate and milk chocolate versions – the packaging and truffle shape is adorable, and the chocolate was pretty good too (the dark one has a stronger, more chocolate taste).

I have yet to try the turkey jerky and mulled spice blend – I’m saving the spices for Thanksgiving apple cider! The Mrs.May’s mini crunch had great packaging, and the product was cut into perfect little squares – but I can’t say that I was overly impressed with its taste or flavor. And the Fruit.o was great, I’m such a big fan of squeezable fruit since I tried the GoGo Squeeze in last month’s LwF box so I was thrilled to try a new brand this month. Fruit.o is almost like the grown-up version of GoGo Squeeze, they’re both super yummy and super convenient.

Altogether the box was amazing – so kudos to Amy Roloff and LwF! Want to try out Love with Food for yourself??? Now until 11/30 you can use the code ‘HOLIDAY12’ and get $5 off any Love with Food subscription plan! That means you would get your first box for only $7!!! It would be super if you could use my referral link here if you decide to give LwF a try!

I can’t wait to see what LwF has in store for December – to see my review for their December box, make sure you subscribe via email, twitter, and/or facebook and never miss an update! Comments are always welcome!

Beauty Sage Editors’ Picks Sample Box Review

Hi guys! I recently purchased one of Beauty Sage’s curated Editors’ Picks Sample Boxes, and wanted to share with you guys what you can expect should you order a similar box from Beauty Sage. Now for those of you who don’t know, Beauty Sage is an online store by YouBeauty.com – it’s more of an online boutique dedicated to offering the best in health and beauty products that have been tested and proven to work. Now, every one of Beauty Sage’s sample boxes are $5 each (or free with a $75 order) – their featured brands change, but you can choose between four specialized boxes or an Editors’ Picks box.

I purchased the Editors’ Picks Sample Box and here’s what I received:

Beecology Lavender & Honey – I received two sample size bars of Beecology’s relaxing lavender with honey soap. They sent it in the cutest little drawstring bag and had a soothing lavender scent – I loved the packaging and size of this sample.

21 Drops De-Stress Drops – I received a small vial of 21 Drops De-Stress aromatherapy oil drops. Their De-Stress formula includes Frankincense, lavender, ylang ylang and German chamomile that help steady the nerves, relieve tension and reduce irritation. It was a nice sized sample, and the packaging was very well done however this scent wasn’t for me.

A Perfume Organic in Urban Organic – The sample was also a small vial. Urban Organic is constructed of a sweet lemon sorbet bourbon, tangy lime peel, basil, ginger, and smoky vetiver. The scent was akin to a lush vegetable garden – it reminded me of a garden after the rain.

Kneipp Herbal Bath in Valerian and Hops – I have yet to try the sample, but it looks quite nice! The packet was 0.3oz and is supposed to be a relaxing treatment with calming and essential oils that help prepare you for a good night’s sleep.

Snowberry Nourishing Lite Day Cream – This is the sample that I the most EXCITED to share with you guys. First of all, a full sized version of this cream is a 1.7oz bottle which runs for $95 – this means that my 0.10oz packet alone costs more then I paid for the box (it has about $5.59 worth of cream). Secondly, this cream is amazing! The sample I had was made for combination skin (which I have), and combines a wide range herbal of emollients and natural gums to deeply hydrate skin; as well as powerful amounts of antioxidants and collagen-boosting peptides, such as Co Enzyme Q10, to combat the signs of aging. It has a mild clean scent, not overpowering whatsoever, and it absorbed super fast into my skin. Plus, it wasn’t greasy at all – it’s a light cream that provides what I felt to be deep moisture and hydration for my skin. If I had the money, I would totally gift myself with a bottle of this for Christmas!

The products within The Editors’ Picks Sample Box from Beauty Change are subject to change, but based on this experience alone I’m already planning on buying a couple more boxes. I have a few family members that this would make an excellent gift for!

Comments are always welcome! Feel free to ask me any questions about this box, my experience with them, and anything else you might have some questions about!

Kiss Ever PRO Lash Starter Kit Review

I’ve probably mentioned Kiss a zillion times on this blog before – but when you find a brand that provides quality for an amazing price, then you stick with it. So, I’ve always been a major fan of Kiss’ lashes and lash glue – but I never before tried their Ever Pro line, until my Influenster Beauty Blogger VoxBox.

I really love these lashes, the glue is stable, latex-free, and long lasting. And the lashes are lush, glamorous, made of 100% human hair, and don’t irritate my eyes at all. Plus the pink applicator is really helpful, and makes lash application a breeze!

The Ever Pro lashes are really lush – definitely event worthy lashes. I wouldn’t wear them on a day to day basis – as that would look sort of overdone and garish. However, nights out, gatherings, parties and other events where looking glam is a priority are perfect opportunities to don these lashes.

When opening the package, you don’t want to use the pink applicator/tweezers to take the lashes off – what you want to do is bend back at the cut portion and peel off with your fingers. Then be sure to apply enough lash glue to the lashes – too little glue and your lashes won’t stay on long. Wait 10-15 seconds, or until the glue is tacky. Then, using a mirror and the pink applicator tweezers, apply the lashes as close to your lash line as possible. You want to apply them as close to your lash line as you can so that it doesn’t look obvious that you’re wearing falsies – you want your lashes to look as natural as possible.

These are super easy to apply, and really give you the appearance of having super long, thick, glamorous Hollywood –style lashes! I’m definitely stocking it in my beauty collection, and am sooo glad that I had the chance to try them! For more details on the lashes and all the great products Kiss offers, check out their website here!

Bath & Body Works Fall Mini Candle Rave!

I am completely obsessed with Bath and Body Works’ seasonal candles! I remember when I was a little girl and my mom used to take me to the B&BW at our local mall. I loved testing all the perfumes, lotions, and body soap – and I still do, but right now I’m just completely in love with their candles. As a part of the Influenster Beauty Blogger VoxBox program I was sent a B&BW mini candle in Nutmeg and Spice, along with a coupon code. Being the shopaholic that I am, I immediately went online and put that coupon to good use! I stocked up on about 7 mini candles and one three-wick candle, along with numerous other B&BW goods (I couldn’t help myself, plus they had a sale going on!). So I thought I’d share my review of not only my Beauty Blogger VoxBox candle, but also the other candles in their seasonal line!

White Barn No.1 Nutmeg and Spice – “A warm and cozy fragrance inspired by an elegant mixture of nutmeg and all of autumn’s very best spices”. I have to admit, Nutmeg and Spice was not my favorite candle. It was too heady and reminded me of my 12th grade science classroom (not a good place, trust me).

Cider Lane – “As sweet as the trip to the local apple orchard each year, a delicious fall blend of mulled cider, warm caramel, and sweet cinnamon”. The caramel notes really come through in this candle, and the cinnamon and apple play nice background dancers.

Frosted Cupcake – “A true food-lover’s delight – fresh vanilla bean, sugar, cake batter, and rich buttercream frosting mix it up and create and irresistible scent”. Easily one of my favorite candles ever, Frosted Cupcake smells as good as the description sounds!

Autumn – “On the brink of sweater weather – this inviting fragrance blends dark pomegranate with red apple and notes of fir balsam”. I love this scent so much, I bought both a mini version and the larger three-wick size – the B&BW description is completely accurate.

Cinnamon Sugared Donut – “Share the delight with a homemade vanilla cake donut covered in sugar crystals and crushed cinnamon”. There used to be this bakery near 14th street and 1st avenue that made these massive donut holes – they were so good and warm, always fresh, and only $0.20 each. For me, this candle reminds me of that place, it really smells like a warm cinnamon donut.

Autumn Day – “A crisp, autumn medley celebrating the changing seasons and the beauty of the harvest with notes of fresh cut cedar, juicy fig and sandalwood”. I love, love, love this candle – it smells so much like my dad’s cologne in a warm comforting way. Plus, I love sandalwood –and it plays in so well with the other scents of this candle.

Leaves – “Celebrate the brilliant colors of autumn with this rich blend of golden nectar, red apple and berries”. This smells so much like warm apple cider with cinnamon and cloves, it just makes me wish for Thanksgiving. Definitely another favorite.

‘Tis the Season – “Deep green pine, rich red apples and a touch of cinnamon blend to create a timeless and heartwarming holiday scent”.  I love this scent so much that I burned through my whole mini candle in two days – it just plain smells like Christmas.

Check out B&BW’s online store, Fall line of scented candles, as well as their recently released Christmas/Winter season scents here!

Please remember whenever you burn flame candles like these to place them in a safe stable place away from flammable objects, or things that might tip the candle (and hot wax) over. Also, do not pour out the oil into the sink – you shouldn’t pour out any oil until the wick is fully burned (hot wax can be messy and dangerous if not handled responsibly).

*I received the Nutmeg and Spice mini candle complimentary for testing and review purposes from Influenster. All opinions presented here belong to The NYC Talon, and are not influenced in ANY way (for more info, please see my PR page).

Love with Food Box: October 2012

I was so thrilled with this month’s Love with Food box that I went straight to Target and bought some of the GoGo Squeeze apple sauce on the go packets (I think I bought a box of every flavor). It’s definitely one of my favorite products now- it’s so yummy, if you haven’t tried it then you totally should! Anyways here are the other products that were featured in the box: Mrs. May’s Natural Superfruit Acai Strawberry Sesame Strips, a Health Nut Gluten-Free Cookie,  Numi Organic PU-ERH mini sampler, Seed and Fruit Trail Mix from Enjoy Life,  Honey Straws by Nature’s Kick, and Baked Cheddar Cheese Fries from Snikiddy Snacks.

I really loved the tea and the honey straw; they had a great taste and would be perfect in a gift basket! After receiving the box and trying my tea and honey, I went to the Love with Food online store and bought a pack of the orange blossom ones – and if that’s not a glowing recommendation then I don’t know what is!

The Strawberry Sesame Strips had a great blend of sesame and strawberry flavors, and a good sweet crunch. Love it. The Health Nut Gluten-Free cookie was surprisingly good; you couldn’t even tell that it was gluten free or anything! I also bought three boxes of these- one in every flavor.

I loved the Seed and Fruit Trail Mix, and couldn’t get enough of the Baked Cheddar Cheese Fries – I know they sell them locally so I can’t wait to get my hand on them!

Overall, this box was stellar, and I’m so glad that I stuck with my subscription. In fact I loved the box so much that I just purchased a 6 month subscription! Love with Food is a great subscription service, and I feel that you definitely get more than your money’s worth. Click here to sign up!

Naturals VoxBox 2012!

Hey guys! I’m super excited- there are so many great things going on over here on The NYC Talon, and I’m so thrilled to be able to share them with you! First off, I’m having an amazing pinterest-themed giveaway for a $225 Hype crossbody bag right now – so if you haven’t entered then please do. Secondly, next month is my birthday month and so I’ll be spreading the joy will my amazing readers with a super special giveaway worth over $150! So stay tuned! And my last bit of exciting news is that I was one of the lucky influensters chosen to receive the Naturals VoxBox! Woo hoo!

I joined influenster less than a year ago, and I absolutely love the brand-consumer relationship that influenster promotes. My first VoxBox had been the Love VoxBox – which I did indeed love (and you can read all about my box, and what Influenster is here). So when I found out I had been selected to receive the Natruals VoxBox I was pretty darn excited! Anyways, without further delay here are the products that were in my Naturals VoxBox 2012:

The Original Dish Drying Mat ($4.99; Bed, Bath & Beyond)

I really loved this mat. I know a lot of people will be using it for their dishes- and I totally will too – but I can’t get over how great this works for drying makeup brushes! This mat is a perfect flat, clean, breathable, fast-absorbing surface (it holds more than 4x its weight in water) – that folds and stores super easily.

Lypsyl Intense Protection LypMoisturizer ($2.99)

I’ve always been a massive fan of Lypsyl. Their LypMoisturizer is my go-to winter chapstick, so I was happy to see an old favorite in the box.

EBOOST

EBOOST is daily health booster, that’s supposed to boost your mood, focus, and immunity with natural ingredients. It sounds really great (and tastes good too) as I do tend to get sick sometime during the fall and winter months. I can’t really give a completely thorough review as I only received one packet, but based on that – it’s a great health booster!

CleanWell Individual Hand Sanitizer Wipe

Sticking with the natural theme of this box, the CleanWell wipes are made up of all natural ingredients that are easy on the earth. These are really great because if you’re like me and have sensitive skin, and alcohol heavy wipes are a no-go, then these CleanWell wipes are right up your alley. They’re really mild (you can even use it on your face) – but work well enough to give a thorough clean.

GEODEO Natural Deodorant Plus Detox Complex 24hr Protection, in Island ($5.99)

I love a good deodorant. As somebody who takes public NYC transportation, I can fully appreciate the benefits of good deodorant (and the horrors of having to smell somebody’s lack thereof). GEODEO’s deodorant has a detox complex made out of volcanic minerals, and Icelandic algae that work to fight impurities. Vitamin E fights free radicals, bamboo and aloe nourish skin, and enzymes neutralize odors. Also, it smells really really good!

NECTRESSE

Made from monk fruit, Nectresse is a zero calorie sweetener that actually does taste like sugar! I used my sample packet on a bowl of strawberries- yum!

Country Life Maxi-Hair Maximized dietary supplements ($17.99 for 60 Tablets)

I haven’t run a complete scientific study on the benefits of these pills, but what I can tell you is that they are choc-full of vitamins, biotin, and MSM – which are all great to take if you’re looking to bring a little life back into your hair, nails, and skin. I can’t wait to see my long term results! What girl doesn’t want to give her skin, nails, and hair some nourishment?!

Altogether I was very happy with the Naturals VoxBox. There’s not a product in here that I wouldn’t get behind. I’m particularly excited about the Country Life pills, and the GEODEO! The drying mat and the Lypsyl are already being put to good use, and my samples of EBOOST, CleanWell, and NECTRESSE have all been used.

Are there any products that you’re interested in? What natural products do you buy or are in the market for? Leave me a comment below and I’ll get back to you asap!

*Disclosure: I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes. No other compensation was received. All opinions presented on this blog belong to The NYC Talon and are not influenced in any way. For more info please feel free to view my PR page at the top of this blog.

I Didn’t Love With Food: August Box Review

I love the Love with Food subscription service, I’ve loved the boxes they’ve sent me, and the fact that they donate a meal to a hungry child every time a box is purchased. In fact, I’ve fallen in love and purchased many of the brands featured in the Love with Food boxes- for example I recently bought a whole ten pack of those corn snacks they sent in their last box and I wrote about here.

However, this months box – for me – was pretty disappointing. While the products weren’t terrible per se, they weren’t thrilling or interesting, and they certainly were not the yummy goodies that I associate with their monthly boxes. The product I was most excited about was dried cherries – and that for me is saying a lot. That being said, I want to make clear that some people will love this months box – but personally I feel the products, and selection were lack-luster.

Feel free, as always, to let me know what you think in the comments below! And before I show you what I received, I’d like to let you know that I will continue to subscribe to Love With Food because one unimpressive box doesn’t spoil the fantastic experience that I’ve had so far as a subscriber! So here’s what was in this months box:

Skinny Dipping Pretzels by East Shore, Key Lime with Ginger Mustard by East Shore, Vegan Lemony Lemon, and the Vegan Peanut Butter Cookie by the Sun Flour Baking Company, Dried Montmerency Cherries by Cherry Bay Orchards, Coconut Toffee Peanuts by Sconza Candies, Gin Gins Super Strength Ginger Caramel Candy by The Ginger People, and Tangerine Glee Gum.

The mustard was good, as were the pretzels. As I said, the products weren’t terrible – it’s just that speaking from a point of value – I can get a larger bag of pretzels at the bodega up the block for a dollar. The Glee gum is a product that is widely available, and the sample was tiny. The Coconut Toffee Peanuts just didn’t deliver for me – and again, I could get a similar product in my local bodega. The Vegan cookies weren’t amazing, and the two Gin Gins samples weren’t impressive either. The cherries were delicious, but I just don’t feel like the most impressive product in my Love with Food box should be dried cherries- a widely, easily acquired, not special product.
