Celebrity Makeup Artist Jamie Greenberg Reveals Her Spring Beauty Tips with Zyrtec & Gilt City

My seasonal allergies act as my yearly reminder that spring has indeed sprung. Just a few days after I noticed my persistent sniffling and watery eyes were not a late-winter cold but just the return of my allergies, I was invited to join celebrity makeup artist Jamie Greenberg and actress Jordanna Brewster for a fun event with Gilt City and Zyrtec who have teamed up with Jamie to offer Gilt City shoppers a sweet promo (more on that in a minute). The event was held at the Crosby Street Hotel, which is one of my favorite spots in the city because the penthouse views are seriously gorgeous, take a look!

Jamie’s tips for making sure that allergies don’t get the best of your beauty routine, include avoiding wiggling the wand (which I admit, I do) when you’ve got allergies as it can cause your eyes to water more and leave you with smudges. She also suggests trying out a flat fan brush instead of wand to apply mascara, if all else fails, use disposable mascara wands each time you apply mascara during the allergy season, it’ll help you avoid allergens and other build-up that can occur on reusable wands.

Jamie also recommends applying cool moisturizer, which may help reduce puffiness caused by allergies. Storing your moisturizer in your refrigerator (I store mine in the butter compartment), and before bedtime remove all your makeup with a gentle cleanser and apply the cool cream to your face to soothe and nourish skin overnight.

My favorite bit of new advice was this – very often oils, allergens, and other residue can build up on the surface of our makeup (and even in our cosmetic bags – so clean those regularly too!). To avoid this issue, Jamie suggests laying transparent adhesive tape over the powder to remove straggling debris from the surface. It’s also a good idea to opt for pencils instead of twist-up products, as every time you sharpen you’ll know that you’re starting off with a clean layer of makeup.

While I didn’t arrive early enough to catch Jordanna, I was able to get a gorgeous and Allergy Face friendly look done by Sarah DiGisco from GLAMSQUAD – thanks Sarah!

Now about that promo I mentioned, right now until May 30th, you can score a free Allergy Face beauty bag (RV $19) when you shop Gilt City’s Beauty in Bloom sale and check out with at least one item. The beauty bag features sample sizes of Aveeno Ultra-Calming Nourishing Night Cream, Neutrogena Moisture Shine Gloss, Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascara, as well as an Allergy Sufferers’ Guide to Spring Beauty and a $10 off coupon for Zyrtec, all packaged in a sturdy cosmetic bag as seen here:

The Beauty in Bloom sale has loads of gorgeous accessories as well as some handy beauty supplies. Also, while you’re checking out the sale, be sure to enter Gilt City & Zyrtec’s The Ultimate Spring Refresh Sweepstakes for a chance to win a trip for two to L.A., a makeover by Jamie Greenberg herself, $1ooo in gift cards and more!

Ready for Anything with Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation!

Preparing for a professional event always turns my stomach into knots. I always want to convey my best self to those that I work for, with, and admire. I was taught at an early age that first impressions matter, and it’s a lesson that I cling to even now. I always want to present myself in the best light. The worst part about preparing for an event is never getting my business cards ready, or my spare phone battery charged and tucked away, it boils down to getting my makeup right. I’m always on the hunt for a products that are perfect for my skin – a product that will stay put long past the last introduction. Since the first moment that I tried Estée Lauder’s Double Wear Makeup, I knew I had finally landed on a winner, and since then I have been utterly impressed!

Macy's Beauty Counters

I’ve never been sold on getting professionally color matched to a foundation. I always thought that I was good judge of my skin tone. Boy was I wrong. Getting an iMatch consultation from Estée Lauder was probably the best idea ever. Cleansing away some of my BB cream, “this” said my Estée Lauder consultant, brandishing a now sullied cotton pad at Macy’s Herald Square, “is far too light for your skin tone”. I bit my tongue until she applied Estée Lauder’s Double Wear Stay-in-Place Liquid Foundation in Dessert Beige.

Estee Lauder Foundation Shade MatchMacy's NYC Estee Lauder BeautyEstee Lauder Macy's NYC

Peering in to the offered mirror I was shocked at how ridiculously perfect the coverage was – I had a bright red breakout, and it was completely indiscernible under the foundation! My sister, who was with me, was equally impressed and as a belated birthday gift I bought her the Estée Lauder Double Wear All Day Glow BB Moisture Makeup that she was perfectly matched for herself! The foundation itself is so light, and only a little is needed for sufficient coverage. It doesn’t look or feel like it’s “pancaked on” and my skin looks so even and fantastic that I’ve been reaching for my Double Wear Stay-in-Place Liquid Foundation on a daily basis.

I’m so sold on the Double Wear line, I’ve already returned to Macy’s to get my other sister and mom matched as well. With birthdays and Mother’s Day coming up, I know that a couple products from Estée Lauder would be definitely well-received!

While at Estée Lauder’s in Macy’s I also picked up their Matte Perfecting Primer, Foundation Brush, and Advanced Night Repair serum as part of a promotion for only $10! They always have different promotions going on, which is partly why I love them so darn much! I definitely recommend getting iMatched. Unlike many brands, Estée Lauder’s Double Wear line features a wide range of skin tones (which is fantastic!), so you definitely want to land on the shade that is really the very best one for your skin tone.

With my new, perfectly matched, foundation I know that I am really putting my best face forward. I don’t have to worry about sweating off my makeup or get stressed about how well my foundation is staying put as I travel from event to event. You know when you feel so impressed and so happy about a product that you simply can’t stop talking about it? Well, that’s where I am right now. I’ve gotten so many compliments on my “skin” recently that it’s just blown me away.

Check out the Double Wear line here! And tell me, what moments do you want to look your absolute best for?

7 Must Haves from Tarte

Recently I was gifted a gorgeous new case for all my makeup. This gave me an excellent opportunity to sort through the items I wanted to keep or toss, and I was also able to “re-discover” many of my favorite products. Turns out that quite few of my favorites are made by Tarte! So I put together a list of the 7 Must Have Products from Tarte!

7 Must Haves from Tarte | nyctalon.com

1. Lights, Camera, Lashes™ 4-in-1 Mascara – Probably one of the most popular mascaras (right alongside Benefit’s BadGal Lash mascara), Lights, Camera, Lashes not only boasts a clever name but also a gorgeous formula which, in my opinion, renders envy-worthy lashes. This mascara boasts 4 benefits – lengthening, curling, volumizing, and conditioning.

2. Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Blissful – I recommend Blissful because I love it and have personally found it to be universally appealing. However, most all of the line is definitely worth taking a ‘gander at. While the color may look frightening in the pan, on the face it looks gorgeous – it doesn’t cake up or dry up, the color payoff is excellent, and the color lasts quite a while.

3. emphasEYES™ High-Definition Eye Pencil – I’ve got all the females in my family hooked on this product. If you’ve been on the Pinterest, or the YouTube, or the Tumblr, then you probably know that tight-lining is a clever way to create the illusion of lush lashes. It can also be a quick way of poking yourself in the eye. This makes tight-lining a breeze with a creamy easy-to-apply formula and teensy tiny tip which allows you to fill in those hard to reach inner rims. Get it and thank me later.

4. The Slenderizer Bamboo Contouring Brush – If you shake in your beauty boots when you hear the word contour (like I do) then you’ll want this brush in your beauty product arsenal. It’s designed to make contouring easier – and it does with soft synthetic bristles and a dense domed end, as well as a looser angled end to help smooth away rough lines.

5. Tarte Power Pigment in Awakening – I picked up this one via my GlossyBox subscription, and I love it! I’m too lazy to bother with reapplication of glosses or lipsticks, and this is a gorgeous heavy pigment that you can just apply it and forget it and trust that it will still look good later on in the day.

6. Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation – I was turned on to this foundation by Ingrid – Missglamorazzi – of YouTube vlogger fame. With similar oily skin struggles (and believe me, here the struggle is real) and with an inclination for breakouts and sensitivity, this foundation is the only foundation that I’ll use during warm months. During the fall and winter I use it as a setting powder for more flawless, matte, and complete coverage over a lighter foundation. I recommend it to everyone.

7. Skinny smolderEYES™ Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner – When I’m not using my Stila Stay All Day Liquid Liner, and when I like to blend, I always go for this liner. It has a smooth formula, turns out flawless, doesn’t tug on my eye upon application, the color lasts all day, and it doesn’t smudge into the crease of my lid. What more could you ask for from a pencil liner?

Hope you liked my list! Let me know what are your favorite Tarte products in the comments below!

Boots No7 Perfectly Bronzed Dual Bronzer a.k.a. The Best Bronzer EVER!

Every so often you come across a beauty product that works so well that you can’t help but rave about it to your family, to your friends, even to random strangers who become lucky recipients of unwarranted beauty recommendations! For me, right now, that product is Boots No7 Perfectly Bronzed Dual Bronzer.

Boots Perfectly Bronzed
First off, the packaging is a sturdy bronze oval-shaped compact. What I love most is that it has a really generously sized mirror. Boots products tend to run with a minimalist design, that being said, while I normally would like to see more artistic license with the packaging the simple yet sleek design of the compact reminds me of summer in the Hampton’s (not that I’ve ever spent a summer in the Hampton’s – but you get my drift).

Boots Perfectly BronzerBoots Dual Bronzer
This is the bronzer that I’ve dreamed of – but until recently hadn’t really found. I’ve used NARS Laguna and I’ve found that while this cult-hit bronzer was beautiful, it just didn’t show up well on my skin. I’ve also dabbed in matte bronzers, and bronzers with a enough glitter to make the lights of NYC dim in comparison. This one is perfectly buildable, with the right side of the bronzer being a matte deep tan bronze, and the left being a lighter version with a bit of subtle glitter. On minimum application, this has to be the most gorgeous natural looking bronzer I’ve ever used. Perk – not a lot of fallout, so you get the full value of the product!

I’ve also found that this bronzer works like a dream when you’re looking for a natural contour – and it’s also great if you’re new to contouring and are nervous about streaking. It really is so beautiful and can give you either natural glow and shading or, when layered up, can give you a bronzed out glam look.

The Boots No7 Perfectly Bronzed Dual Bronzer retails at about $12 and can be found online here, or at Duane Reade (if you’re in the city!), or Walgreens!

Urban Decay Naked3 Giveaway!

Being the beauty junkie that I am, I knew the second that the new Urban Decay Naked palette came out that I wanted to get my hands on it – I also knew that I would love love love to also give it away to one of my awesome readers (new, old, whatever – if you’re here, you’re a reader)!

The Urban Decay Naked palette’s have a serious following, so much so that the Naked3 palette has been in and out of stock at Sephora since it was released. The Naked3 includes “a dozen never-before-seen rose-hued neutrals” – which I’m sure will be the talk of the town way into the new year!

I’ve seen the palette in person and it is really really gorgeous – what I love most is that they run with a rose-gold theme, and I find that rose-gold looks beautful with most every skin type. While the palette is quite pricey, I feel like it’s one of those splurge items that are not only actually worth the money, but are also a necessary piece in your makeup collection – plus, it’s really great to experiment with!

Notorious for their velvety texture, stellar pigment, and impressive color payoff, here’s a look at all three palette’s!

The NYC Talon has joined forces with one of my favorite beauty bloggers – Elle Sees – to giveaway this gorgeous Urban Decay Naked3 palette!

Summer Essentials with CVS!

I love shopping at CVS/pharmacy, as a true drugstore beauty product junkie there is one line exclusively from CVS that I really truly go out of my way to get my hands on – and it’s the Nuance line by Salma Hayek. I love how Salma truly promotes her brand – and unlike other stars who simply slap their name on a product and call it a day, Salma really seems to be passionate about the line that was inspired by her grandma and “designed to help every woman enhance the nuances that define her individual beauty”. So I recently stopped by my local CVS to look for some summer essentials from CVS’s Nuance!

Summer Essentials from CVS

cvs5Nuance Salma Hayek Renewed Radiance Brightening BB Cream with SPF 30 has been a favroite since I tried it out at a media event a few months ago. This BB Cream actually works as an excellent dupe for the more expensive Benefit You Rebel tinted moisturizer – they both have the same cool sensation when applied to your skin – which is great for the summer, except the Nuance one has a higher SPF! I found that it provides sheer but buildable coverage, and contains dermaxyl – which enhances firmness, improves moisture retention, and has been shown to help visibly reduce the number and depth of wrinkles. Also, if you get sweaty really easily like I do, you’ll love this BB Cream – it actually absorbs into your skin without any real residue, so you won’t be sweating in color.

I count this next product as one of my favorite beauty discoveries this summer, it’s the Nuance Salma Hayek Cucumber & Rosewater Dual Phase Makeup Remover. I suffer from pretty awful allergies, especially during the summer, so I’ve been in the market for a makeup remover that would give my lids a little TLC, while also removing waterproof (ahem, sweatproof) makeup. This makeup remover contains cucumber, rosewater, chamomile, lavender, mimosa, blue agave, camapu, & prickly pear extracts that actually soften and condition my skin while getting rid of all my makeup – and the great thing is that my skin feels so cleansed and really lovely afterwards.

This product hasn’t gone through rigorous testing – but in what little time I’ve had it has worked exceptionally well – and it’s the Nuance Salma Hayek Smooth & Shine Anti-Frizz Serum. The serum contains meadowfoam seed oil which hydrates, seals in moisture, prevents breakage, and controlling frizz. My hair has been toasted since I went to the beach, and this just tames all those summer time frizzies!

My last product is the Nuance Salma Hayek Intense Hydration Hair Mask with Blackcurrant. So before the summer I had attempted the ever-famous ombre look, dyeing a few inches of my hair blonde. And while it looked good for a while – the salty waves and glaring rays definitely did a number on my strands, this hair mask has definitely been an answer to my hair woes! This mask has really really restored a lot of my hairs softness and silkiness, which is awesome because my hair was looking very straw-like!

The great thing about CVS is that not only did I save %20 on all the Nuance products I purchased, but I also made a lot of headway towards my $5 extra bucks rewards that I get on spending $50 on beauty products through CVS’s extracare Beauty Club!

I love CVS’s Beauty Club because a) I spend a lot of money on beauty products, everything from makeup to haircare, to nail products and it’s nice to get some of that money back and b) when you’re a member of the Beauty Club you get 10% off beauty shopping pass after enrollment, $3 ExtraBucks rewards on your birthday, and exclusive emails with coupons, tips and new product info – and being a member is totally free! Just click here for more info about CVS’s Beauty Club and to become a member!

So those are all my favorite CVS Beauty Essentials! I hope you do get to try some of these yourself – they’re really amazing quality products at drugstore prices, and if you have any beauty essentials and products from CVS that you love let me know in the comments below!

Zyrtec Combats Allergy Face at the Macy’s Flower Show!

As a blogger, you occasionally get to do really fun things. Well a couple weeks ago I joined Zyrtec at Macy’s flower show where I learned a few tips and tricks on dealing with my allergies and I had an awesome and incredibly informative make-over!

zyrtec allergy face
I suffer from THE WORST allergies, I mean I have to start taking an antihistamine before the weather even gets warm. If I don’t I usually get itchy eyes, and itchy throat, a cough, some sneezing  maybe popping in my ears from inflamed sinuses, and eventually my really bad allergies will turn into a full blown illness. So to avoid this I usually stick to using Zyrtec.

But even with Zyrtec on board I can get what is commonly known as “Allergy Face” – which is when your face shows the classic signs of combating allergies. Signs like redness around your nose, bags under your eyes, maybe even red or watery eyes, and even a swollen face. If you have allergies, then you know what I mean! Well, at the Macy’s flower show beauty expert Rebekah George gave me a few pointers at keeping Allergy Face at bay:

It all starts in the bag – if the makeup you’ve got in your beauty bag has been in use for a year or longer it’s time to toss it. Clean out your makeup bag using the one-two-three rule. Keep blush no more than one year, mascara for about two months, and check your lipstick for discoloration every three months. I know I’ve been guilty of holding on to makeup for waaaayyyy longer than a year.

Take advantage of the big bold brow trend – my makeup artist, whose name I have shamefully forgotten (sorry!) went for the bold arched brow look to distract from my puffy watery eyes and I cannot believe how good I looked, lol! I’m serious, I’ve always been afraid of big bold brows (and looking like Groucho Marx) and I never believed that they’d actually look good on me. But I can honestly say I’ve never seen my brows look so good, and they were great when combined with strategic placing of concealer, highlighter, and bronzer – you couldn’t even recognize that I was a former “Allergy Face” poster girl!

For more information on Allergy Face and how to combat it, click here!

Thanks to Rebekah for some awesome tips, my Benefit makeup artist and her envy-worthy skills, and Zyrtec for showing me how to combat Allergy Face!

BA Star Natural Eye Shadow Palette – Affordably Fabulous!

I just found an amazing high-end makeup dupe for a fraction of the price! I recently had a chance to try BA Star’s Natural Shadow palette and I have to say it has the same quality and same color payoff as the shadows in my Urban Decay Naked palette!

BAStar Makeup Palette

Comparable to high end eye shadow palettes, the colors in the Natural Shadow palette are extremely versatile and blendable – which gives you access to a variety of shades. It includes three mineral shadows in Bronze, Cocoa, and Nude along with two gel glitters – Gold and Crystal.

Going for a lighter daytime look here

What I love about this palette is that you can wear the glitter as a standalone eyeliner or shadow – or you can mix it with either the Bronze, Cocoa, and Nude and create a gorgeous custom ultra glam shade of your own! I used an elf brush to apply the shadows because I wasn’t a big fan of the applicator. Nude works as a great highlighter and looks beautiful swept across your lid for a lighter day look. I’m in love with the Bronze shadow because it’s such a pretty warm color – and it very buildable – so you can go darker with this one if you like. Also, Bronze looks amazing as a liner for your lower lash line! Cocoa is the perfect dark shadow for this set, it makes a great smoky eye and works wonderfully as a liner and blended into the corners of your eye.

BAStar Eye Shadow

Bronze, Cocoa, and Nude

What I love best thought about BA Stars compact eyeshadows is that they go on beautifully – and feel like velvet! I don’t know how they did it, but it feels like a cross between creme and powder shadow. It holds very well to your skin and doesn’t feel heavy at all. They just feel so smooth, look gorgeous, and last for hours – without any primer!

Gold and Crystal Gel Glitters

BA Star caters to dancers, cheerleaders, and trendsetters – providing top quality products at extremely affordable prices! This palette only runs for $8.75 – and you get a discount if you’re ordering six or more. The BA Star palettes come in Natural Shadow – the one I received  Smoky, Pretty N Pink, and True Blue. Right now, BA Star is offering a discount to readers of The NYC Talon, for a limited time you can use code BBSMOKY to knock 50% off your BA Star Palette order! Check out their online store here or by clicking the image below!

NYC New York Color Liquid Lipshine in Nude York City!

I love lip gloss, it requires less maintenance than lipstick and I’ve always liked the glossy look of a good lip gloss. I received NYC New York Color Liquid Lipshine in Nude York City as a part of my Influenster Holiday VoxBox and I thought I’d share some of my thoughts on their Liquid Lipshine::

NYC is one of my favorite drugstore cosmetic brands for a number of reasons. First of all, they have amazing prices and I can usually find them on sale at my local Rite Aid, Walgreens, or Duane Reade. Secondly, they generally have comparable cosmetics – and you can find quite a few dupes for high end makeup from them, which is great for any girl buying on a budget. And lastly, NYC pays homage in their product design and advertisements to my most favorite city and home – New York City!

Now about that lipshine, Nude York City is a versatile nude color. It has an almost peachy look to it, and has a generous amount of glitter and shine. On application it’s pretty sticky at first, but absorbs nicely into your lips and looks quite attractive. I have to tell you guys, I really love the wand for this gloss! It’s actually flexible, which is good for application and feels really good when you put it on!

Another thing I found when using this gloss is that it goes great over bright colored lipstick, and even colors that otherwise might not suit you. For instance, I have this limited edition red lipstick that I love the color of but never wear because it just doesn’t look well with my skin tone. When I applied Nude York City over the lipstick it smoothed down the color, and brought out the warm tones in the lipstick making it look better on me than without the lipshine.

NYC has loads of great colors in their Liquid Lipshine line (and they’re only about $2.25 each!), feel free to check them all out here – and check out their whole site and everything NYC New York Color has to offer by clicking here! Have you tried any of NYC’s products? Which ones were your favorites? Let me know in the comments below – I’d love to know which one to try next!

* I received this product complimentary for testing and review purposes from Influenster. I am under no obligation to review said product. All opinions presented are my own and are not influenced in any way, for more info see my PR tab above!

naked basics

Naked Basics Palette ($27) – This new palette by Urban Decay is a six shadow palette, an all matte line based off of the infamous Naked palette’s. I have a lot of shadows that have glitter, or are designed to look “luminous”. But I’m a massive fan of matte shadow – especially for the day time.
