Justice League: Axis of Villians Review!

reviewdisclaimer

I’m not going to pretend to know everything about the Justice League. I used to watch the cartoon series on Cartoon Network when I was a kid, and while I wasn’t as in to it as I was into say – The Powerpuff Girls, I did understand that the show had to do with hero’s putting down villians. The Justice League Axis of Villians game by Wonder Forge works around that same concept.

Axis of Villians

Each player chooses which hero he/she wants to be – so either Batman, The Flash, Green Lantern, or my personal favorite – Superman. The idea is that you stop the satellite from destroying the Justice League (and presumably earth) by capturing all the villians. If a villian reaches the satellite then one part of the satellite is damaged, when all four parts are damaged then the Justice League loses the game.

Axis of Villians Game Board

Initially I was a little perplexed by the directions, but as we actually got into the game I really understood how fun and simple it actually was. I really love how each hero has different “powers” and attacks villians in different ways – like Superman can roll the dice twice during a certain attack, but only once on others. The game is designed so well too, the graphics are fun and there is enough detail to be stimulating without being overwhelming.

Axis of Villians Game BoxSuperman Axis of Villians

The game is exclusively available at Target, and at the time this post goes live Target is actually having a pretty great Buy One Get One 50% off sale going on! I’ve linked it here if you’re interested. The game really makes an excellent gift for anyone 8+ who is into DC Comics, The Justice League, or even if they just really love a good strategy game – it’s loads of fun, promotes teamwork, and everybody really gets into it while playing!

I loved the Axis of Villians game so much, I’ve included it in my Holiday Gift Guide!

Eye Found It! Disney & Wonder Forge’s Most Magical Game

reviewdisclaimer

I love Disney, and I have loved them ever since I was a little girl and was introduced to Disney princesses like Pocahontas, Jasmine, and Belle. However, my adoration wasn’t strictly reserved for Disney princesses – I also was a hardcore Winnie the Pooh lover. I had a stuffed Pooh bear that was my most favorite accessory! This holiday season, give your Disney fanatic the Disney Eye Found It! Hidden Picture Game from Wonder Forge – it feature’s everyone’s most favorite Disney characters and I promise, they’ll love it!

Eye Found It! Game Review

When I first looked at the game I thought that it would be sort of a competition between players to see who would get to Cinderella’s castle before the clock struck midnight. But actually, Wonder Forge and Disney really encourage team work with this game (although when we played it there was also a fair amount of competition too, haha!) and makes it possible that all the players can actually win.

Parts of the GameEye Found It! Board Game

The idea is is that everyone picks a player and on their turn spins the spinner. The arrow will land on one of four options – to move the clock forward either one hour or two hours, to advance a certain number of spaces indicated, or to search. If you spin search, you pick a card from the deck. Based on the color of the search wedge that you landed on (red or blue) you choose that color side of the card to use. Then you start the timer and ALL the players (teamwork!) help to look for the object shown on the card. Each time you find a hidden object, you’d place a little mouse marker on the object (to keep track) and when the sands in the hourglass timer run out you count up your markers and everyone advances that many spaces. The idea is that you make it to Cinderella’s castle before midnight – if you do, then you’re a winner! Make sense?

Disney's Eye Found It! from Wonderforge

For example if the card reads “barrels” then you would look for as many barrels in all the Disney scenes as you can find. Like their might be one in One Hundred Acre Wood, and one in the little town from Beauty and the Beast.

What really blew me away was the gorgeous colors and details that went into creating this game! It really is amazing to look at – and perfect for those who love a good seek and find! The board includes 12 “Disney Realms”, and stretches out at 6 feet long!

Look at that detail!

Disney Eye Found It! by Wonderforge

If I didn’t own it already, I would definitely buy this as a Christmas present. If you have a Disney fan in your family (and who doesn’t?), or want to introduce someone to the wonderful world of Disney, then this magical game would be right up their alley! Of all the games I’ve seen this season, this is one of my favorites, which is why I included it in The NYC Talon’s 2013 Holiday Gift Guide!

Build-A-Bear Workshop Opens in FAO Schwarz in NYC!

Last Friday, my sister and I headed downtown to the newly opened Build-A-Bear Workshop at FAO Schwarz. I’ve actually never been to a Build-A-Bear before, so it was pretty exciting for me!

Build-A-Bear Workshop in FAO Schwartz in NYC

The Build-A-Bear Workshop in the FAO Schwarz store is actually their very first store-within-a-store, and is the only one in the US right now. Jules and I arrived early, before the ribbon cutting ceremony (check out pics from the ceremony here!) and were able to go through the complete experience.

Building a Bear

I love how interactive the whole experience was, and I feel like having the Workshop inside the legendary FAO Schwarz store adds a whole other layer of fun and really makes it a NYC destination experience not to be missed!

A Bear Named Sally

Jules ended up creating her very first Build-A-Bear, which she named Sally. She was able to add fun characteristics to Sally’s heart – for instance, she’s smart, strong, and loyal. Sally also has a beating heart and plays “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” whenever Jules squeezes her left arm.

I really love how Build-A-Bear included a lot of NYC themed exclusive animals and accessories!

NYC Build-A-Bear Workshop

I’m definitely planning on making my own Thor bear – although I’d definitely like to see a Loki costume too!

We love the new Build-A-Bear store and are already planning a return!

Get Playful with the Y-Volution YGlider!

My family and I are serious park junkies, we love to pack up a few snacks, maybe even a picnic basket and head to our local park. We usually bring along a plethora of toys – everything from basketballs and tennis rackets to sidewalk chalk. Spring is my favorite time to head out doors and I distinctly remember when I was young that I loved to grab my scooter and let the budding greenery speed by as I hit the pavement like the little speed devil that I was.

Scooter for Little Kids
Scooters are probably the funnest toys out there, and I love that Y-Volution now has scooters for budding speedsters as young as three years old!

YGlider1
I recently had a chance to test out the Y-Volution G2 YGlider for kids three and older and I was thrilled with the construction of the scooter! It designed to have a lean-to-steer mechanism, which means better control for your little one. I love how the YGlider fosters better balance, motor, and coordination skills! The two wheels in front help with better balance and support, plus the handles are cushioned rubber – which gives your little guy or girl the control they need.

Y Glider

With only two pieces, all you have to do is click in the handle bar and you’re off!

What I love about the YGlider is that it’s a unpack and play kind of product. You can put it together right out of the box – I took mine to the park in the box so I could get some great pictures to show you guys, and I was nervous when I realized I had left my mini travel screw driver and scissors at home. So I was super happy to discover that it really was incredibly simple to put together and wasn’t locked in the box like most toys (*cough, cough* Barbie) are. Also, the YGlider is incredibly light weight and I had no problem toting it around.

The Yvolution YGlider retails at around $59.99 at Toys R ‘Us and is worth every penny – having done some research I’d say that it’s definitely the coolest, most safe, practical, and fun scooter for little ones out there – I know my four year old nephew is going to love speeding on this scooter all Spring and Summer long!

The Big Toy Book’s Biggest Day of Holiday Play Event Recap!

I love toys, and a few weeks ago I was lucky enough to take Juliet (my little sister) to The Big Toy Book’s Biggest Day of Holiday Play event! Together, we both got a sneak peek at the hottest toys that are hitting the shelves.

TB1

As a 90’s child I was thrilled to see the presence of a few old school toys – of course they’re all re-imagined to accommodate the taste and lifestyle of the modern child. But the purpose of toys like the Spirograph and the Slinky will always remain – and it’s to have fun!

TB2

Some of the awesome toys that Juliet and I got to get our hands on to try were Hex Bugs – which I featured on The NYC Talon’s 2012 Holiday Gift Guide! In fact, both my little brother and sister received HexBugs for Christmas (they had an awesome sale in Target, so Santa couldn’t help himself *wink, wink*). I just love HexBugs, they’re just so much fun – and completely reduce me to a nine year old kid again.

TB3

Lite Brix was definitely one of the popular toys at the event. Personally, I’ve noticed how increasingly popular light up or glowing toys are amongst kids. Juliet loved playing with them, and was dying over their “super cool light up guitar” that Lite Brix had bought along for the event.

TB4

One of my favorite toys, which I had never heard of up until TBTB BDH event was the Boogie Board – which apparently means that I’ve been living under a rock or something. I’ve been telling everyone about this super useful, fun toy – and during Christmas break I mentioned it in passing to one of my grandmother’s and she was like “Yeah, I love the Boogie Board! I’ve had it for a while; I use it to write down item numbers when I watch the home shopping network”. So much for being “in the know” lol!

Koosh was also super popular – the kids LOVED playing with them! But I think the adults loved them even more – their one of the toys that appeals to “kids” of all ages, which I love.

Products like the Slinky, Spirograph, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were complete throw-backs for me. I loved seeing them there alongside newer lines like AppGear, Tech4Kids, ArtSee Studio, and FlyLine RC (who are one of the awesome sponsors for The Dragyn’s Lair and The NYC Talon’s #Tweetin13 twitter party!). Juliet spent the majority of her time though with the folks from The Bridge Direct – she now wants everything she saw in that suite especially the Waverly and the Magic Seashells line, Glo Glo Inkoos, and Looney Toons stuffed animals. Meanwhile, I absolutely loved the Annoying Orange dartboard. She loved the Hello Kitty Shoulder Buddy one of the super nice ladies from The Bridge bestowed upon her, she insisted that I instagrammed it (you can see it here)!

We had a complete blast – and I have successfully solidified my reputation as one of the coolest sisters ever!

I am a massive fan of fashion and as a curvy fashionista – one of my favorite places to shop is Lane Bryant. They have such a wide array of options and styles, that it’s hard not to get stuck in store for hours. This past week I was in Lane Bryant looking for some fab festive fashions. I ended up buying some gorgeous outfits and I picked up some awesome gifts for my friends and family!

Lane Bryant

I love this outfit, it’s very versatile and can easily move from a day to night look. During the day you can pair the blazer with a white button up shirt and black flats. Then to move your look to the evening, you switch your flats out for these gorgeous heels and festive top, add on some accessories and ta-da! Your look is seamlessly and fashionably complete! For me this is my perfect holiday look. I want to easily be able to go from day to night just by removing/adding a few key pieces. Plus the blazer is to die for, and I’m a huge fan of statement pieces like the ring and set of chunky bracelets.

Lane Bryant Bracelets

Speaking of accessories, I was totally in love with the gorgeous pieces offered at Lane Bryant! I think I purchased like three sets of these bracelets to give to my loved ones for Christmas – they’re totally glam!

I also loved these glittery manicure sets – which I also picked up for a few friends. In fact, Lane Bryant had a whole wall of beautiful accessories that I had a great time browsing through. The great thing about the holidays is that you can totally pile on the accessories for a more glamorous look – it’s an especially great time to layer on pieces.

August Favorites – The Hit List!

August has been a whirlwind month for me. Between BlogHer ’12, getting ready for back to school, and enjoying the last days of summer, I’ve managed to find so many new favorite products!

At the top of my list is the hottest toy at my house right now- the Perpluxus Epic 3D Puzzle! I can honestly attest to the fact that this game, despite being marketed to kids 8+, thoroughly appeals to puzzle-lovers of all ages. Picked up at the BlogHer ’12 swag echange at the Hilton, everybody in my house has had a go at solving it (although not everybody has actually solved it, including *cough, cough* yours truly). We love it, so if you’re looking for a game for a birthday, or if you’re already making a gameplan for Christmas – definitely look into getting your hands on one of these. Although, you should be careful, because if you drop it (or if it rolls off your bed, like ours did) – then a little piece could pop off the puzzle and render it semi-broken (like ours is).

The next item on my list is another product that I’ve absolutely fallen in love with, and that’s Kiss’ Impress Nails. This has already received a lot of hype all over the internet, in magazines, everywhere- but this is really one of those rare products that actually is deserving of all the hype surrounding it. So get your talons on a set of these, they’re perfect for when you’re on the go and want chip-proof, professional looking nails. Check out their designs, and get a $1 coupon here!

Have you ever purchased one really good-for-you sounding snack bar only to find that it’s chock full of sugar and carbs? Yeah, been there, done that. Rickland Orchards new Greek Yogurt Bar’s are the solution to your snacking woe’s (because there’s nothing worse than a snacking woe). Not only do they taste really really good (my favorite is the Cherry Almond one’s), but they only have 22 carbs, and boast 5 g’s of fiber (leaving your net carb at 17), and 7g’s of protein – which is pretty good as far as snack bars go.

I cannot get enough of the smell of the Apotheke:M Coconut Jasmine Enriched Body Creme- it’s definitely my favorite body creme right now. It has a nice coconut scent, without being heavy like most products with shea butter usually are. The jasmine acts as a toner, chamomile as a soother, argan oil as a emollient, and avocado and shea butter acts as moisturizers. I haven’t had a chance to try the whole line (which is priced at $8.99 a piece at Target), but if they’re as good as the creme then I’ll definitely purchase the whole set!

So that’s it for my August monthly favorites! Have you discovered any new products you love??? Let me know in the comments section below!

Chuck E. Cheese, #BlogHer12, and Other Talon News

Last week I went to Chuck E. Cheese with the younger sibs for some fun and games- and I wanted to talk about that for a bit. For those of you who don’t know, Chuck E. Cheese is like an arcade chain for kids- and it’s hugely popular for birthday parties, school trips, and for regular days of fun. So recently I took the young ‘uns with my sister and was reminded of how much I love CEC and simpler times of grade school, pizza, and arcades. Here are some shots of our day of reindeer games:

Going to CEC really is so much fun, I mean I don’t care how old you get – the temptation of getting a perfect score on skeeball will always be there! Nobody will ever admit to using their kids as an excuse to exercise their throwing arm, but if we’re being honest here I saw a few moms putting up serious numbers on the skeeball scoreboards! ;) Chuck E. Cheese always has those coupons and deals that come out in their newsletters and in the Sunday paper, so if you’re also a kid at heart who has a couple of fun loving kids to entertain this summer and want to do so without breaking the bank- take them here! And as it happens, Chuck E. Cheese is one of BlogHer12’s sponsors- which, if you’ve been reading my posts, is where I’ll be at August 2nd!

And speaking of BlogHer12 (for more on that click here)- I’ve noticed the amazing brands that are sponsoring not only BlogHer, but individual bloggers themselves. It really got me to thinking about the value of blogs, word of mouth, and the influence we have as and on consumers. It also got me to thinking about the connections that we make, and the interaction that we share daily on social media sites. I’ve never been to BlogHer before and if it’s got me thinking this much (and it’s not even the end of July!), I fully anticipate it to be an eye-opening experience for me as a blogger- and therefor I fully expect it to affect this blog. Which is why I’m going to encourage you in a blatant and unabashed show of self-promotion to subscribe, follow, like, whatever it takes for you to hear a bit about what’s going on- because I’ll be giving you loads of BlogHer12 coverage, in addition to updates on what to expect ‘round these here parts!

And in other news, I’d like to announce that I’m not only now an E.L.F. affiliate (eyes lips face cosmetics), and a new SheHeard Social Media Campaign blogger (woop woop!), but I’m also a new One2One Network member- which is a network of  influential, socially connected woman “who ignite conversation and spread awareness of brands they love”. So if you’re a blogger and not yet a part of that- you totally should be! And if you’re not a blogger and are a reader then you should also be excited because that means more reviews and giveaways!

Also, in the very near future you should be expecting a couple more sample box reviews (which I LOVE and seem to get a lot of traffic), as well as another food related giveaway! And on that note – go enter my best in beauty giveaway! I absolutely love all the products I’m giving away and can’t wait to share them with one lucky reader!!!

Comments and questions are always appreciated and more than welcome – in fact they pretty much make my day!

Feature Film Friday: The Mummy (1999)

This is probably one of the best Friday night flicks ever. I love this movie so much that I’ve bought it numerous times (when they get all worn out from over-usage, aka somebody dropping it on the floor and getting it all scratched up). In fact, I love this movie so much that I feel it’s one of those rare movies that the trailer alone summarizes the movie sufficiently enough to bring in an audience, so here you go!

Adventure, romance, and  intrigue, The Mummy is pure unadulterated fun! You’ll be glad you saw it (if you haven’t already)!
