Jamie Greenberg’s Allergy Face Tips & Looks Available on the beGlammed App!

Most of my mornings start way too early, with packed trains, elbows, coffee, and loads of foot traffic. So it was a much more than a welcome reprieve when I was invited to spend my Wednesday morning with Jordana Brewster and celebrity makeup artist, Jamie Greenberg, at the Gramercy Park Hotel’s Gramercy Terrace.

I’ve met Jamie before, and she is so sweet and clearly so passionate about what she does. I wish I had half the energy she did that morning! Seriously though, there really isn’t enough caffeine in a cup of coffee anymore, is there?

Jamie, who has been working with Zyrtec for about 4 years now, knows all about the struggles brought on by allergy season – “As a makeup artist, I know that looking your best can be a challenge, especially during allergy season. I am so excited to work with the makers of Zyrtec to develop new tips to help women solve their Allergy Face beauty challenges – watery eyes, red nose and puffiness.”

Here are some of Jamie’s Beauty Tips:

  • Make sure makeup removing wipes are marked as gentle for sensitive skin or you’ll run the risk of worsening redness from Allergy Face.
  • Use a hydrating mask and a light moisturizer to even out skin texture and color.
  • Make your eyes appear more open by curling your lashes, and applying black mascara to upper and lower lashes when dealing with watery eyes.

I was also treated to an Allergy Face, customized, makeover by the beGlammed app team! My makeup artist, Darlene, was incredibly nice and didn’t mind the fact that I awkwardly blinked-smudged the mascara she was applying, and tried talking while she was applying my lipstick. Thanks Darlene! ;)

Right now, until June 7th, the beGlammed app is offering Allergy Face makeovers as a part of their services provided. Coffee-Mate Natural Bliss Debut New Coconut & Almond Milk Creamers at Tasting Table Event

This past week I was invited to join Coffee-Mate & Natural Bliss at Tasting Table in Soho to get a closer look at their new plant-based creamers in action. If you don’t know, Tasting Table is basically a test kitchen and dining room – it’s where all the cool culinary action takes place, from video shoots to invite-only dinner parties. I’ve heard so much about it, that I was so glad that it lived my expectations. It is such a dreamy space and their team is amazing.

Tasting Table CocktailTasting Table NYC

Tasting Table & Natural Bliss put together a ‘Breakfast for Dinner’ menu that blew my socks off. There was a fun Acai Berry Bowl station, where Coffee-Mate’s Natural Bliss Coconut Milk Creamer was put to the test. I’d never actually had an acai bowl before and if they’re anything like the one I had at Tasting Table, then I can see why they’re so popular.

We also had Citrus and Beet Salad, Mushroom and Soba Salad, Vanilla Almond Chia Pudding with Fresh Fruit, and my all-time favorite item of the evening – Almond French Toast.

Because I was in a breakfast sort of mood, coffee was a must. Made with no GMO ingredients, natural bliss Almond Milk and Coconut Milk plant-based, non-dairy, creamers are deliciously smooth and creamy. My pick? Caramel Almond Milk Creamer. I’m a sucker for caramel anything, so this with my standard coffee is pure gold. There’s also Hazelnut Almond Milk Creamer, Vanilla Almond Milk Creamer, and Sweet Crème Coconut Milk Creamer (which made my acai bowl extra special).

Avacado toasts, Carrot Apple Kombu Shooters, and Chickpea Panisse rounded out my evening of fun. And I can’t forget the Caramel Tres Leches Cake as dessert, which was perfectly done.

Coffee-Mate Natural Bliss Almond Milk and Coconut Milk Creamers are now available at retailers nationwide – with the Hazelnut flavored Almond Milk creamer being sold exclusively at Target stores. For recipes and more information on the new natural bliss products, click here.

Rethink Sweet with Buddy Valastro & Whole Earth Sweetener Co.

Buddy Valastro has recently partnered with Whole Earth Sweetener Co. in a campaign to Rethink Sweet, featuring new and exciting ways to make tasty treats using Whole Earth’s line of sweetener – and if the Cake Boss says it’s good then you know it’s good! Whole Earth Sweetener Co. offers a line of lower calorie, non-GMO sweeteners that have 50% fewer calories per serving than their traditional counterparts. Fortunately for me, I was able to see the sweetener put to the test firsthand when I was invited out to the Lackawanna Cake Factory & Filming Studio out in Hoboken a few weeks ago. I don’t often find myself in that neck of the woods, but I don’t think twice about crossing state lines when cake is involved.

whole-earth-agave-50carlos-bakery-canolislobstertails2

First off, the inside of the factory/filming studio smells insane! Like butter and sugar and everything good and lovely to eat. If you don’t know (I didn’t!) the factory is where all of the Cake Boss cakes are made. This means not just the wedding cakes, but the store-bought Cake Boss cakes that you see at other bakeries and places like BJ’s. Basically they bake up all the pieces of the cakes and pastries and send them off to be assembled closer to the location of where you would buy them.

cake-boss-factory-tour

We were given a tour of much of the factory, which was super exciting. There were giant mixers, a room where we saw employees rolling out innumerable pastries, and so much more – but my favorite had to be the decorating room.

lackawanna-cake-factory-and-film-studiothe-cake-boss-factory

I actually tried my hand at cake decorating a few years ago and it is hard work, and I for one do not have the knack for it. While I’ve resigned myself to the life of a mere cake-eater, I have such an appreciation for the decorating team at Lackawanna Cake Factory –  if you’ve seen the show, or have been on their website, then you know that their work is beautiful.

Buddy also stopped by to tell us a little about why his partnership with Whole Earth Sweetener Co. –

“As a fourth-generation baker, quality and taste are a top priority, and Whole Earth Sweetener Co. uses ingredients sourced from nature, like stevia and monk fruit, which are crafted and manufactured into a great tasting line of lower calorie sweeteners that you can’t find anywhere else. Not only do Whole Earth Sweetener Co. products taste great, they also let you indulge in the sweet foods you crave and love, but with fewer calories.” – Buddy Valastro, Cake Boss

He also spoke about working with Whole Earth’s Sweetener and how he went through a testing process of using the sweetener and altering some recipes to accommodate any changes in the final product. He really stressed how that was most important to him – that what you bake tastes good, which is why he really loves Whole Earth’s sweeteners because it is a lower calorie sweetener that was still an excellent tool for him as a baker to make great treats.

buddy-valastro-rethink-sweet-eventbuddy-valastro-rethink-sweet

After having a couple of slices (yes, it was that good and I have no control over what happens when me and cake are in a room together) of cake made with the sweetener, I was completely sold! We also decorated these cute gingerbread men that were also made with Whole Earth Sweetener Co. – I put my, albeit limited, decorating skills to the test and created this little gingerbread man who is clearly ready for colder weather.

Whole Earth Sweetener Co.’s range of products feature a Baking Blend, Turbinado Raw Cane 50, Whole Earth Sweetener Honey 50 and Whole Earth Sweetener Agave 50 – which are now available in 45 states from more than 60 select retailers as well as on amazon.com. A Better Snack: Olives From Spain

This post is sponsored by Olives From Spain

Every year, Spain’s top wineries get together to celebrate their latest and greatest offerings with both wine novices, connoisseurs, and industry professionals. Hosted by the Trade Commission of Spain, Spain’s Great Match was packed this year. Thanks to Olives From Spain, I was able to attend and not only get a peek at popular vinters, but also dine on the country’s other favorite – olives!

I’m actually a hardcore olive eater – if you’ve been following me on twitter or Instagram you might know this already. Not only do they rate as one of my favorite snacks, but they are a strict requirement for my cheese plates. I mean, really, a cheese plate is not a cheese plate unless there’s a decent Manzanilla olive somewhere on it. Unfortunately, I didn’t actually know too much about olives, aside from my preference for the Spanish Olives mix at the grocery store. Luckily, the Olives From Spain team was on hand to school me on some interesting facts:

Did you know that most olives are used solely for oil extraction? I had no idea! And while the time it takes for every olive to go through the process required to get them ready for eating may vary, only a select few are deemed suitable for consumption. I love that – it makes my snacking olives feel that much more special. Speaking of special, the olives served at Spain’s Great Match by Olives From Spain were something extra – just look at these Olives with Marcona Almonds (another Spanish specialty), diced piquillos, and Carables cheese. So, so good.

Olives From Spain at Spain's Great Match, read more at nyctalon.com

But my favorite was the Queen Olives stuffed with goat cheese, and served with a slice of apple, honey, and extra virgin olive oil. Queen Olives are named for their size, which the Olives From Spain folks informed me correlates to their price. The larger the olive, the more expensive it is. I’m familiar with stuffed olives – I’ve had them with piquillos, lemon, and almonds, but up until this event, I’ve never had them with goat cheese. I expected the cheese to come across as sharp and bitter, but the combination of the olive with the cheese, apple, and honey struck such an ideal balance that I had to restrain myself from snapping them all up and eating them myself.

Spain’s olives not only deliver great flavor and make a great low calorie snacking food, they also pack in a surprising amount of iron and fiber! There are currently more than 300 million olive trees in Spain, so there’s plenty to go around (or at least enough for my snacking habits). Which is a good thing, seeing as how Spain produces about half of the 145,000 tons of olives we import every year. Suffice it to say, the US is a massive fan of Spanish olives.

How do you enjoy your olives? Do you serve them as a table snack? Or do you use them in marinades, salads, or stews? Olives from Spain are so versatile, but if you’re looking for a creative way to serve some look no further than http://olivesfromspain.us/ for more recipes and to learn more about your favorite Spanish olives!

LG Supports Share Our Strength’s “No Kid Hungry” at Taste of the Nation Charity Fundraiser Event in NYC

Did you know that more than 16 million American children are affected by childhood hunger? It’s a staggering number, and the reason why Share Our Strength’s “No Kid Hungry” Taste of the Nation culinary series exists – to help raise awareness and support in tackling this imperative issue. The Taste of the Nation series takes place in various cities across that nation, and last week, many of NYC’s top chef’s and mixologists came together for NYC’s Taste of the Nation fundraiser. As one of Share Our Strength’s premier national partners, LG had an exciting presence at the event – if you didn’t know, earlier this month LG Electronics USA announced their unique partnership with Share Our Strength, which is committed to help end childhood hunger with No Kid Hungry.

LG Taste of the NationLG No Kid Hungry Event

Thanks to LG, I was able to attend Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry Taste of the Nation Charity Fundraiser. LG had setup what looked like a small restaurant in the space, complete with a menu, and a preview of LG’s line of Black Stainless Steel kitchen appliances. In between bites, we were able to put LG’s Virtual Kitchen Design tool to work – the design tool helps visualize how LG’s Black Stainless Steel works in every kitchen environment and design. I also had their 100 Mile NY Filet Mignon which was served with Yukon gold gnocchi, upstate NY spring onion relish, Catskill asparagus, and red pepper coulis.

LG Farm to Table Filet Mignon

It was so good – the filet mignon was perfectly tender and so delicious, I would have kept ordering it if I didn’t have over 30 other restaurants to sample from! Here’s what else I ate:

Sexy Taco Dirty Cash Taste of the NationPublic Restaurant Taste of the Nation

Sexy Taco/Dirty Cash’s Chef Brian Washington-Palmer treated guests to Chile Braised Pork Tostadas with Jicama-Cumin Slaw – I’m adding this spot to my need-to-eat-at list, these tostadas were ridiculously good. I am not a big fan of vegan desserts, my experience with them has been unexciting. However, Public Restaurant’s Chef Brad Farmerie served up a Vegan Dark Chocolate Oat Tart that was shockingly decadent – I was certainly a fan. One hot spot at the event was Chef Jessica Weiss’ (Marta & Maialino) assorted biscotti buffet. Guests were loading up on a variety of her cookies – and I definitely appreciated her salted chocolate cookies the next day!

Marta & Maialino Taste of the Nation NYCUnderwest Donuts Taste of the Nation

Underwest Donuts’ Chef Scott Levine was turning out extremely popular Halva Donuts next door to Root & Bone’s Chef Romina Peixoto’s Kentucky Donuts with Bourbon Cream – they were both the stuff of dreams. The Kentucky Donuts were served warm, which only heightened the experience for me.

OddFellows at Taste of the NationSherry B Dessert Studio Taste of the Nation

OddFellows Ice Cream Co. had an amazing Neopolitan Sundae – I’ve actually never been to OddFellows so this was a real treat for me. It was so good, now I know that I HAVE to go! Sherry B Dessert Studio had an all-star lineup featuring Fluffernutter on Banana Bread (classic peanut butter and marshmallow fluff reimagined as an ice cream, sandwiched between layers of banana bread), Suzy Q (an ice cream sandwich take on the infamous snack cake with Sweet Cream Ice Cream and Devil’s Food Cake), and The Tipsy Lux (Luxardo Maraschino Cherries soaked in maraschino liquor and blended with swirls of Amaretto fudge and Amaretto Candies Almonds, all piled high on a Maraschino Cake).

I went back for seconds thirds of Sessanta’s (Chef Paul DiBari) Spiedini of Marinated Octopus with Chermoula. I even snapped up their last serving. ICE also served up an insane pasta that I unfortunately cannot remember the name of.

Sessanta Taste of the Nation NYC

I almost had to roll myself out of there, haha! There was so much great food, and it was so nice seeing the nation’s top chefs and restaurants get together for a great cause. LG’s partnership with Share Our Strength is a perfect fit, seeing as how LG is a brand that is really dedicated to bringing families together in the kitchen, they hold family mealtime at the core of its values so dedicating themselves to helping make sure that more kids across the country are getting access to the healthy meals that they need makes perfect sense!

How to Live a Life of Plenti

About three weeks ago I attended probably one of the more timely events, at least on a personal level, for me. On a Thursday evening I joined Yoplait’s new Plenti yogurt as well as NYT Best Selling Author Gretchen Rubin, Chef Gabe Kennedy, fitness expert Dasha Libin Anderson, and lifestyle expert Pippa Lord for a private modern wellness workshop. I’m not usually over fond of “life building” advice – maybe it’s because there was a boom of self-help and advice books when I was a kid and I always associate it with not leading a busy enough life that you have time to wonder if you’re doing it right.

LandofPlenti Event

Fast forward to three weeks ago where I was up to my ears in work, and found myself sitting in front of Gretchin Rubin who wasn’t giving useless generic pieces of advice (aren’t those the worst?!) but who was actually sharing some of the best advice on how to manage your time more effectively through habit (a way to make consistent effort in a particular area) building, and how that in turn can make us (me, we) more happier people. It’s actually pretty cool to hear about how each person’s particular personality makes them predisposed to function around expectations a certain way – which also explains how a person like me is more inclined to take care of work and others, but forget to take care of myself too. In fact a ton of people are inclined to do the same.

Plenti EventPlenti Yogurt

Here are two of my favorite takeaways from Gretchin’s session: 1) Gretchen creates a power hour once a week where she works on things she’s been procrastinating, noting that you can do anything for one hour. This sounds so do-able! I have a ton of things I’ve been procrastinating on, and an hour is really such a small cut of time in the frame of my entire week. And 2) One of the most effective strategies for banishing bad habits or changing habits is the strategy of scheduling. Schedule 10-15 min a day to indulge in your bad habit and then let it leave your mind. I loved this tip – now the trick is choosing which of my bad habits to indulge in, haha!

Chef Gabe Kennedy led us on a More Abundant session, where he shared his secret formula for a happy meal – every day you need an in-season vegetable, a green, a lean protein, a healthy fat and a sour food, like Yoplait Plenti Greek yogurt. He added, “One of my food secrets is to eat a “sour” food every day – Greek yogurt like Plenti is a great way to get that sour. Plus, it has my favorite seeds flax and pumpkin.”

Yoplait Plenti Yogurt

Dasha Libin Anderson led the More Fulfilling session, the founder of Kettlebell Kickboxing shared some great fitness techniques that could be done even at the office – and I’ve already started doing them myself and have shared them with my friends! Following that, during the More Interesting session, Pippa Lord encouraged us to do what we value – it’s easy to get so busy that we forget to be real cultured people with interests that can hold valuable conversation with each other. She recommends putting together a culture bucket list, and not being afraid of ditching the chores and spending a day being lazy – I can totally get behind that!

Plenti Lifestyle Advice

Altogether it was great, fulfilling evening – I learned so many great things, and I was able to finally try Yoplaits Plenti yogurt which I now love to have right after work/school when I need that extra boost of energy! Try it – trust me, it tastes amazing!

New in Beauty: Pure ICE Butterfly Effects Collection!

I probably paint my nails most in the Spring & Summer – bright clothes and gorgeous weather always inspired me to change things up, frequently. So naturally, joining Pure ICE for a morning chatting about polish, summer nail trends, and their brand new Butterfly Effects with Shimmer-Wing collection was the perfect way to spend my first day of proper sunny weather in the city.

New in Beauty: Pure ICE Butterfly Effects Collection! | nyctalon.com

I’m an ardent Pure ICE fan – available at Walmart for only $1.97 a bottle, and keeping up with the best of them in terms of quality, variety, and color payoff – it’s definitely one of the best drugstore variety polishes out there (I actually prefer them to the handful of essie polishes I’ve tried). The Butterfly Effects w. Shimmer-Wing collection features three new shimmery polishes – Rose, Iris, and Jasmine. Rose is a sheer pearlescent pink, with shimmering shades of lavender, powder blue and sunset orange; Irish is a soft lavender opal, with hints of blue, emerald, and pearl; and Jasmine is a light green with blue and gold shimmers.

New in Beauty: Pure ICE Butterfly Effects Collection! | nyctalon.com

I got to play with them myself, and I have to say you know how most glitter/shimmer top coats are pretty much interchangeable (within reason)? Well, these aren’t. They’re all really unique, and they all made the same purple polish base that I used look completely different. They don’t clump or go on too thick to dry, it’s a very smooth, clean, but very effective formulation. Definitely worth owning the entire collection (after all it’s only three – and you’ll love ’em!).

New in Beauty: Pure ICE Butterfly Effects Collection! | nyctalon.comNew in Beauty: Pure ICE Butterfly Effects Collection! | nyctalon.com

Another exciting addition to the Pure ICE lineup is their temporary tattoos! They can be applied to skin or nail, and I am absolutely in love with these. Once applied they don’t have that over-shiney look that temporary tattoos tend to have. And they come off with a little baby oil and elbow grease.

Pick up your polish, temporary tattoos, and the Butterfly Effects collection this month, exclusively at Walmart!
