The Good Life VoxBox Review!

Not too long ago I was one of the lucky Influensters to receive a (complimentary for review purposes) Influenster The Good Life VoxBox. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Influenster and the VoxBox, click here for more deets (and let me know if you’d like an invite in the comments below), otherwise, here’s what I received in the Good Life themed VoxBox:

Good Life VoxBoxInside the Influenster Good Life VoxBox

New-Skin® Liquid Bandage (ARV $7.29) – I was super excited to received this – it’s like a liquid bandaid that dries and forms a protective cover that is flexible and waterproof! Unfortunately I haven’t been injured recently (not even a paper cut) so I haven’t been able to give it a proper try – but I’ll let you know when I do, I know I’m pass due for some sort of injury ;)

Nonni’s® THINaddictives ™ (ARV $3.99) – I like them, they’re decent cookies and they go great with coffee. Plus, they’re only 100 calories for 3 of them – which makes it a healthy snack. I’ll probably buy these myself when I get a chance.

the Vitamin Shoppe Garcinia Cambogia (ARV $16.99, 90 Capsules) – Garcinia Cambogia is a fruit native to Southeast Asia, India, and West Africa, and may support appetite control. I’m still in the testing process with these – you’re supposed to take 2 capsules 30 minutes before a meal.

ZonePerfect Greek Yogurt Bars (ARV $1.25 ea.) – My bar was their Greek Yogurt Vanilla Berry one and it was amazing! I love this bar! I’ve seen it a zillion times on store shelves and I was always curious about it, but never went ahead and bought it. But now that I know how good this one was, I’m definitely going to try the other varieties that they have. Have you tried ZonePerfect Bars? If you have, let me know which one you like best!

UrgentRx® Fast Powders™ (ARV $1.39) – You all already know how much I love my Urgent Rx, I buy mine all the time from Duane Reade. They’re amazing, and super convenient.

The Verdict: I love receiving VoxBox’s of any kind, but this box couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ve recently been journeying into a more healthier lifestyle – and I feel like the ZonePerfect Bar and Nonni’s cookies and really everything that was included in the box have been great helpers for me. They’re products that make the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle that much more easier.

Getting it Together with Align Probiotic! #DRAlign #CBias

My family has a pretty consistent history of digestive issues – on both sides. We’ve even recently had a diagnosis of Celiac’s disease in the family. And while I could let a little of lask-lustre medical history get me down, I have instead decided to take a few preventive (or coping, lol!) measures of my own. One of them is pursuing a healthier lifestyle, another is by taking Align Probiotic.

I recently had the chance to try Align, but beforehand I had been trying alternative probiotics – none of which really appealed completely to me. Because my family history, digestive health is a serious concern of mine – and especially because I personally do experience gluten sensitivity.

I headed to a local Duane Reade to pick up Align – it was actually my first time ever at the 72nd street location. With two floors, I’m in love with the 2nd floor of this Duane Reade, the glass walls, and extensive beauty and health selection is amazing! To see all the pics from my shopping trip click here!

I actually have been taking Align, adding it to my vitamin routine for over 14 days now. In my opinion Align is definitely something worth trying. It has really brought a sense of stability – or regularity – to my everyday digestion. And I definitely noticed a decline in upset stomachs.

Even if you don’t have a family with a history of digestive health issues, or even if you yourself are not gluten sensitive, the standard American diet is low in fiber (which helps digestion), and high in protein and simple carbs -which makes food harder to digest. Align has “good bacteria” – live microorganisms which help to bring the balance of bacteria back. Other reasons to take Align – if you travel a lot, or if you’re experience regular stress (um, who doesn’t? lol!).

To read more about Align – which is #1 Gastroenteroligist recommended – click here! Proctor and Gamble – better known as P&G – also offer tons of tips and savings here! Plus, if you buy Align right now, they include a pamphlet of over $15 in P&G product savings!

Invisalign and My Experience with Braces

Content Disclosure

I had my braces removed not too long ago (and by “not too long ago” I mean the memory is still fresh in my mind, lol!), and for me braces were a long drawn out process. I had the standard braces with wire and metal brackets, and now I wear a part-time retainer. I initially had braces to correct an overbite, as well as crooked teeth, and a space between my two front teeth. As a teen my main concern was completely cosmetic – I absolutely was willing to endure any horror or pain just to have straight teeth. I had no idea the world of good that having straight teeth would do for me.

I can honestly say being able to be completely comfortable and happy with my teeth has made a world of difference in terms of my confidence and comfort in various public settings – plus, my teeth and gums have never been healthier since I’ve had my teeth straightened and braces removed. I am really so pleased with the way my teeth have turned out – but my road to straight teeth wasn’t always smooth. I remember the stress of having to thread floss through my braces, stress of constant maintenance  the anxiety of not always knowing if I had food stuck in my teeth, and how the metal brackets irritated my gums.:

I would endure these setbacks again in a heartbeat for the set of chompers I have today, but if I could do anything differently I would’ve certainly considered using Invisalign. Invisalign is the clear alternative to the wire and bracket braces that I had. And unlike my braces, with Invisalign you don’t have any food restrictions (woo hoo! that means you can eat gum!), and nobody can tell you’re wearing them! As a girl who had to walk around college with a metal mouth I can’t tell you how many times I wished my braces were invisible!

Invisalign braces look a lot like the retainers I wear now

I know my orthodontist is Invisalign certified- not all doctors are, see if your dentist or orthodontist is certified by using the Invisalign Doctor Locator here. I know Shawn (my ‘lil bro) is considering getting Invisalign, so we’ll see- he took the Invisalign Smile Assessment Test, it was pretty interesting to determine his primary dental condition and alter the model. It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re interested in Invisalign too.

First impressions really are everything. For me, having straight teeth was extremely important.

I have to admit, the thing I love most about Invisalign is that you can actually see results in as little as 90 days of starting the process. I had to wait four years to finally see the how my teeth had really turned out – and I didn’t even see them then, I had to wait until my gums (which were irritated from the metal brackets) had returned to a normal healthy state. I really can’t believe what technology and science has done for orthodontry – but if Invisalign is the future of braces (which it’s shaping up to be) then kids like Shawn won’t ever have to go through the horrific rite of passage that once meant headgear (so I’ve heard), metal wires and brackets (so I’ve had) – which I think is pretty great!

Getting Happier and Healthier at Duane Reade! #DRHappyHealthy #cbias

Content Disclosure

I’ve been feeling a little under the weather recently, mostly due to my allergies. So this weekend I stopped by Duane Reade to pick up a few products that I feel made my life a little healthier and certainly a lot happier. I love how Duane Reade recently came out with a Happy and Healthy magazine, for me this makes finding sales and products I love that much more easy. My mom and sisters and I poured over the mag in the window at my local Duane Reade – it just seems nicer to be able to see extra information on products, I like being able to become more familiar with an item before I make the commitment of purchasing it. Plus, it included loads of ways to garner Balance Rewards points – right now if you spend $30 on select Duane Reade items you can score 5,000 points!

Happy and Healthy Duane Reade

The Duane Reade that I went to is my all time favorite Duane Reade in the city, it’s located in the theater district and has the coolest beauty section ever! I noticed that Fergie’s new line of cosmetics with Wet n Wild was on sale (with Fergie being on the cover of the DR Happy and Healthy guide), and I spotted them pretty quickly. I’ve already purchased most of the line, and I have to say the nail polish she created is super glamorous!

Happy and Healthy Duane Reade

I wandered around for a while looking for the apple chips that were featured in the magazine, but alas I couldn’t find them – but I did stumble upon the Delish Probiotic Snacks! My most recent foray into a healthier lifestyle has included a lot of trail mix, dried fruits, and nuts – so it’s always nice to try something new and good for you.

Happy and Healthy Duane Reade

I ended up in the frozen foods section (I always end up there, I’m a sucker for prepackaged foods – especially the one’s from Duane Reade’s Delish line). I couldn’t decide between the hot dog puffs and the spanakopita – I decided on the spanakopita because I’ve had real authentic handmade spanakopita and I’m super curious about how the Delish version will compare with the real thing. The spanakopita doesn’t exactly fall under the healthy category, but it certainly makes me happy!

Happy and Healthy Duane Reade

Speaking of happy, I was searching determinedly for Studio 35′s face masks. I spotted them almost immediately in the Happy and Healthy mag on sale for 5 for $5! I had a hard time locating them and was distracted by all the beauty products – I literally could spend hours in the Look boutique of my Duane Reade. Finally, a helpful sales associate led me to the masks – which I picked up every kind of. My sisters are so excited to use these, they’re a great way to promote healthier skin – plus throw in a good movie and some healthy snacks and you’ve got the ultimate girls night in! For me, well, I plan on using these to sooth my skin and to feel less icky.

Happy and Healthy Duane Reade

I picked up some other items on my way out, like Dr.Ken’s all natural toothpaste which was a steal at $1.79 – it usually costs $7! Our final stop was at the drinks section, we quickly spotted the Nice! drinks – which are advertised in the Happy and Healthy mag as buy two ($0.99 each) and get one free, a deal that we totally capitalized on. These have zero carbs and no sugar – and taste great. They’re one of my favorite soda alternatives, and I was so grateful to see them on sale!

Happy and Healthy Duane Reade

I always use my balance rewards card at the end, I think I just love seeing the total decrease so rapidly, lol! To check out my whole shopping trip, take a gander at my album here. It was great to get my hands on so many products that I knew would totally make me feel better – there’s nothing like having terrible allergies, and I was so looking forward to munching on my healthy snacks and relaxing with a face mask!

Zyrtec Combats Allergy Face at the Macy’s Flower Show!

As a blogger, you occasionally get to do really fun things. Well a couple weeks ago I joined Zyrtec at Macy’s flower show where I learned a few tips and tricks on dealing with my allergies and I had an awesome and incredibly informative make-over!

zyrtec allergy face
I suffer from THE WORST allergies, I mean I have to start taking an antihistamine before the weather even gets warm. If I don’t I usually get itchy eyes, and itchy throat, a cough, some sneezing  maybe popping in my ears from inflamed sinuses, and eventually my really bad allergies will turn into a full blown illness. So to avoid this I usually stick to using Zyrtec.

But even with Zyrtec on board I can get what is commonly known as “Allergy Face” – which is when your face shows the classic signs of combating allergies. Signs like redness around your nose, bags under your eyes, maybe even red or watery eyes, and even a swollen face. If you have allergies, then you know what I mean! Well, at the Macy’s flower show beauty expert Rebekah George gave me a few pointers at keeping Allergy Face at bay:

It all starts in the bag – if the makeup you’ve got in your beauty bag has been in use for a year or longer it’s time to toss it. Clean out your makeup bag using the one-two-three rule. Keep blush no more than one year, mascara for about two months, and check your lipstick for discoloration every three months. I know I’ve been guilty of holding on to makeup for waaaayyyy longer than a year.

Take advantage of the big bold brow trend – my makeup artist, whose name I have shamefully forgotten (sorry!) went for the bold arched brow look to distract from my puffy watery eyes and I cannot believe how good I looked, lol! I’m serious, I’ve always been afraid of big bold brows (and looking like Groucho Marx) and I never believed that they’d actually look good on me. But I can honestly say I’ve never seen my brows look so good, and they were great when combined with strategic placing of concealer, highlighter, and bronzer – you couldn’t even recognize that I was a former “Allergy Face” poster girl!

For more information on Allergy Face and how to combat it, click here!

Thanks to Rebekah for some awesome tips, my Benefit makeup artist and her envy-worthy skills, and Zyrtec for showing me how to combat Allergy Face!

Enjoy the Heat and Kill the Burn with UrgentRx! #MyUrgentRX

My family has always enjoyed hot and spicy food. Unfortunately we all experience serious heartburn following our spicy indulgences – I even get heartburn when I drink coffee. I’ve learned to prepare myself when I eat spicy food, I’m not always prepared with an antacid so I pretty much anticipate the burn and live through it.

UrgentRx is usually located near the cash registers or the pharmacy (I’ve seen them at both)

I recently found out about UrgentRx - on the go meds for on the go New Yorkers like me, which are found at city Duane Reade’s. So the other day when my family decided to head to Whole Foods for lunch, I knew to stop by a local Duane Reade and grab some UrgentRx. My favorite item from the Whole Foods buffet is the Indian food – I’d just about die for some good chicken tikka masala, or somosa’s!

But before I turned up the heat, I headed to Duane Reade to prepare for the burn. I love going to Duane Reade, my family goes there every Sunday after church and I go whenever I’m downtown (which is at least twice a week). I remember going there almost everyday after school with my best friend when I was in high school to buy drinks and snacks. I meant to just pop in and pick up UrgentRx for heartburn and pop out, but I got so distracted by the sales and ended up walking out with more than I bargained for – but all at a great price!

snacksDistracted by snackage!

My Duane Reade had some seriously hot sales in the food aisle – I ended up scoring Girards Champagne Dressing for $1.19 – 68% off from $3.79! I’ve never tried it before, but Champagne Dressing sounded so good that I couldn’t pass it up. And I couldn’t not buy DeLish Scrumptious Brownie Bites – which were on sale for 99 cents.

Check out my whole shopping trip here!

The UrgentRx was located by the register and were priced at $1.59 and come in a travel friendly size – it’s smaller than my Balance Rewards card and small enough for wallet or purse. They come in Heart Burn Relief, Headache Relief, Allergy Attack Relief, Upset Stomach Relief, Ache and Pain Relief, and Critical Care Aspirin  I can definitely see myself using all of them at one time or another. I had my camera in my hand at checkout and the packet was so small and thin I forgot I was holding on to it and almost forgot to pay for it! Luckily the bright pink and white packaging caught my eye before I could complete my transaction.

Headed downstairs to Whole Foods! Can’t wait to get my hands on my favorite heat-heavy eats!

After loading up on snacks and UrgentRx I headed over to Whole Foods in Columbus Circle – my sister and I shared some Indian food and I bought some tabbouleh and spicy Caribbean shrimp and mango salad – which was really delicious but super hot! And as expected I used my UrgentRx – it’s a no water powder that you just pour in your mouth! How cool is that?! Because it’s in powder form it gets into your bloodstream faster and is therefor more effective. Plus its tear and go packaging is childproof. It worked super fast for me, and I absolutely loved it!

My favorite spicy foods!!!

Urgent15And my favorite form of heartburn relief!

How about you? Do you get heartburn? What spicy foods do you love to eat? Would you take UrgentRx?

LUSH in Union Square: 1 of 10 Stores to Carry LUSH’s Exclusive New Gorilla Perfume Line!

I was lucky enough one recent rainy Tuesday to spend my morning out of the rain and ensconced in the wonderfully fragrant LUSH store in Union Square. As it happens the Union Square LUSH is one of only ten stores nationwide to be hosting LUSH’s newest fragrance line Gorilla Perfume! LUSH sales reps Veronika and Ruben gave me a store tour, introducing me to new products and reacquainting me with old favorites.

Gorilla Perfume was created in England by father and son team Mark and Simon Constantine. With creative inspiration the line features nine different scents – my favorite’s being Sun and Furze. What’s really crazy is that Sun was inspired by Mark’s trip to Cape May, New Jersey – where I spent many of my childhood summers! No wonder I loved it so much!

Lush Union Square
I’ve always been a fan of LUSH’s seasonal selection, and they often sell out fast. I was able to get my hands on a few of LUSH’s Easter-themed products, and let me tell you they are amazing!

lush union square
Carrot bubble bar, Fluffy Egg bath bomb, Henata bath bomb, & Eggception bath bomb

I love love loved the Carrot bubble bar – it smells like lemon (not carrot) – and according to Veronika you can get a good 4-6 uses out of it. The enormously popular Fluffy Egg bath bomb smells like sweet cotton candy, it turned my bathwater pink and left my skin super soft and silky – definitely a favorite of mine now! Henata was really citrusy, and I loved the “surprise” bath bomb eggs inside! The scent reminded me of tangerines and summer time, it’s very bright and it definitely wakes you up. And the Eggception bath bomb had the cutest little surprise chick inside, I just about died when I cracked the egg open. So if you get a chance, swing by your local LUSH and definitely pick up one (or all!) of these treats!

lush union square
Ruben and Veronika introduced me to LUSH’s massage bars – which are now probably one of my favorite products ever, so thank you Ruben, Veronika, and Lush! I picked up the Heavanilli for my mom and promptly stole it back from her. It smells so good, and I just can’t get over how genius it was of LUSH to create solid massage oil & butter bars!

aqua mirablis
During my visit I also picked up an old favorite – Aqua Mirablis body butter bar. Aqua Mirablis is the most amazing product for anyone with dry skin! Ground almond shells exfoliate and gently removes dead skin cells, while cocoa and almond butters lend some deep moisture to your skin. Plus it smells awesome!

Lush Union Square
I loved the setup at LUSH’s Union Square location, and Ruben and Veronika were amazingly helpful and provided lot’s of information – I can’t wait to go back and see what else LUSH has in store!

*I received product samples from LUSH, as well as a store tour in order to facilitate this post. Special thanks goes to LUSH and lovely LUSH reps Veronika and Ruben who took the time to show me around – thanks guys! Skeeter Snacks Review and Giveaway! 2 Winners, Ends 2/1

I’m an avid snacker, but more than anything I love having cookies and milk. Nothing beats the classic after-school snack, one of my all-time favorite cookies are from Skeeter Snacks. Perfectly buttery, yummy, and crunchy their cookies are simply put, amazing. One of my most favorite treats, Skeeter Snacks are more than just yummy cookies, they are actually peanut and tree nut free cookies!

Right now an estimated 4% of American adults and 8% of children suffer from food allergies. With peanut and tree nut allergies affecting the majority of this population, an average of about 6 million adults and children have a peanut and/or nut allergy. So chances are you’ve probably heard about the precautions that must be taken for those that have such allergies. Maybe your child’s school no longer allows peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, or maybe your kid isn’t allowed to bring in peanut M&M’s – the fact is is that something as harmless as a peanut can in fact end a person’s life. There are those who are severely allergic, and unfortunately many many snacks, treats, food, and sweets are made in facilities that process nuts and therefor make their product inedible for those adults and kids who are allergic to them.

There are brands and products out there that produce peanut and tree nut free snacks, but all too often they taste well, tasteless, and cost an arm and a leg. Skeeter Snacks is completely different, they’re reasonably priced and taste absolutely amazing! I would have never guessed that they were nut free if the adorable little Skeeter Squirrel’s (the only squirrel with a nut allergy) placard hadn’t suggested it.

Skeeter Snacks comes in Chocolate Chunk, Golden Oatmeal, Skeeter Doodle, and Chocolate Cubed. I don’t have any nut allergies, but I’m in love with these cookies! They are all seriously delicious, and they have the approval of both the kids and adults in my family. In fact we’ve already decided to switch from our mainstream well known popular brand of chocolate chip cookies and buy Skeeter Snacks instead. We all love that Skeeter Snacks as brand not only produces an amazing product, but that they provide resources and information for kids and adults wanting to learn more, or who are looking for support in being proactive about peanut/tree nut allergies.

Now about those cookies, I tried to find a favorite but I really just couldn’t choose. The Golden Oatmeal was just this warm mellow sweet oatmeal-y cookie that brought me right back to my childhood, when my mom used to give my sister and me oatmeal cookies while we did our homework. The Skeeter Doodle’s were super yummy – they had crystallized sugar on top, were super buttery, and had this great crunch. I’d say they are the ideal tea or coffee cookie. The Chocolate Chunk was really good – the perfect crunchy CCC.  And the Chocolate Cubed delivered some serious chocolate flavor – I loved how the cookie was crunchy but the chocolate chips were melty, I don’t know how the folks at Skeeter managed to do that but it was so good! And yes, all of them make a perfect afternoon snack with a glass of cold milk!

Now here’s that giveaway you’ve all been looking forward to, lol! Skeeter Snacks had been kind enough to offer TWO of my lucky readers and chance to try each of Skeeter Snack’s cookies! How cool is that? Here’s how to enter to win:

EBOOST, for natural, long-lasting energy!

There are a zillion and one energy products out there on the market. But EBOOST is one of the few that boasts natural ingredients that provide a LASTING energy boost. I was always wary of energy drinks and supplements – I never knew exactly what was in them and I completely dreaded the crash that inevitably followed.

I actually have tried EBOOST before and the taste was alright – it was the orange one, and while I appreciated the boost of energy I just couldn’t imagine drinking it every time I needed some energy. Luckily in the Holiday VoxBox from Influenster I had a chance to try the Pink Lemondade version. The pink lemonade has a far better flavor – and if you’ve had energy drinks before then you know how hard it is to find an energy drink that tastes drinkable let alone good. I should warn you, it does have a bitter aftertaste, it doesn’t last long at all, but really just tastes like orange rind.

The packet advises that you mix it in with 12oz of water. Initially I mixed it with 12 oz, using the mason jars I bought (thanks Pinterest!) but ended up moving it to a larger pitcher because it was a little too sweet for my tastes and I wanted to add some more water. So personally, I’d mix it with like 20oz of ice cold water. It fizzes up like soda in the beginning, but then dies down a bit and tastes only subtly carbonated.

I would definitely recommend EBOOST to athletes, people who exercise- like when you need a boost before starting your cardio routine at home, and definitely students. I know I have a super full semester this Spring and I’ll definitely be needing an extra boost. I used my EBOOST when I had to pull an all-nighter and it keep me feeling awake enough that I powered through the night. But what I love most about EBOOST is that it gives you natural energy that lasts and contains vitamins and super nutrients like Vitamin C,  Vitamin D, and B-12! That to me is definitely a winning formula!

To check out more EBOOST reviews, check out Influenster’s EBOOST page or check out the EBOOST website here for more info!

A Better Breakfast with Quaker Real Medleys Oatmeal+

During the week I don’t always manage to eat breakfast. I know, it’s terrible. But I’m determined now more than ever to get the most out of my mornings. Which means adding in a healthy breakfast into my routine. The only problem is that I’m probably the exact opposite of a morning person, I can sleep through pretty much anything, and after I wake up I won’t be coherent for another hour or two. So popping up to make a delicious but healthy breakfast is as realistic as me suddenly sprouting wings and flying (like those Red Bull commercials).

Quaker Real Medleys Apple Walnut Oatmeal

Thankfully, Quaker – a brand I grew up with, came out with their Real Medleys “instant” oatmeal. My mom was actually really excited about the Real Medleys line when it first hit stores, but for some reason or other we never actually got around to trying them, until I was sent one of the Real Medley’s in Apple Walnut in my Influenster Holiday VoxBox. So over the holiday week, I was super busy and therefore even less of a morning person than ever, I just popped it in the microwave and I was actually pretty darn surprised with how tasty it was!

real medleys

I know the directions say to just add water and microwave, but I’m a lactose lover so I did a half milk half water mixture. To me milk makes everything creamier and better. SO if you’re like me and regularly add milk to your oatmeal, I’d suggest you edit the directions and add some milk.

real medleys instagram pic

Real Medleys comes in Cherry Pistachio, Peach Almond, Summer Berry, and Apple Walnut – which is the flavor that I tried. It’s really really yummy – and I promise I’m not just saying that. It literally tastes like a hug from the inside – it’s warm, not too sweet, the apple and cranberries add the perfect pop of flavor, and the walnuts give a great layer of texture to the oatmeal. So if you’re in the store, and you’re looking for a delicious, fast, and easy breakfast option totally pick up some of these because they’re so good and only about $1-2 each.
