Surviving Those Manic Mondays with Mamma Chia (GIVEAWAY)

Mondays are classically the worst day of the week. This semester my Mondays are especially tedious – I leave home before most people in my house are awake, and I arrive home when everybody is getting ready to sleep. Keeping my energy levels up and not crashing during these sort of days is a challenge. I do my best to avoid the allure of vending machine snacks, but the best way to keep from temptation is keeping an alternative snack on hand. My favorite is the Mamma Chia squeeze pouches. I’ve been buying them, along with the chia beverages, for ages and found out that they’ve recently added some exciting new options to their lineup.

Mamma Chia Coconut Mango

The chia squeeze comes in 6 different flavors, of course I have my hardcore favorites. Each pouch contains omega-3s, protein, and fiber. Available flavors include: Blackberry Bliss, Cherry Beet, Green Magic, Mango Coconut, Strawberry Banana, and Wild Raspberry. Of the six, my favorites are Cherry Beet, Mango Coconut, and Strawberry Banana. The Cherry Beet one is insanely good, I wish my local BJs stocked this flavor because I would just buy boxes and boxes of this one. The great thing is that the Mamma Chia squeeze does not require refrigeration, and tastes just as good cold or room temperature. This means that I can enjoy it at the start of my day all the way to on the commute home at the end of my day!

I was not familiar with Mamma Chia’s new granola clusters until recently and I was so excited when I found out. I feel like I’ve been on a ton of health blogs, vlogs, and instagrams that feature yogurt as a breakfast. But personally, I cannot just have a yogurt and a couple of berries or I end up feeling completely unsatisfied. I need the texture and chewing, so I often turn to chia, granola, or flax seed. Mamma Chia’s granola clusters offer more flavorful options like Wild Blueberry Clusters, Vanilla Almond Clusters, Cinnamon Pecan Clusters, and Honey & Oats Clusters. Each serving is choc-full of omega-3s and 10g of soy and dairy free protein. My favorite? It’s a tie between the Wild Blueberry Clusters and the Cinnamon Pecan Clusters for sure.

I have long been a massive fan of the Mamma Chia Organic Vitality Beverages. I will literally talk about them to anyone who will listen. I get questions about them all the time. Basically, the big deal is that in each bottle you get 4g of protein, 95mg of calcium, 25% of your dietary fiber, and your entire days worth of Omega-3s (2500mg). Some days are so busy or stressful that I can’t sit down to eat an entire meal, so I’m always glad when I have one of these drinks on hand. They don’t necessarily make me feel really full, but they definitely pick me up and help me make sure that I’m not running on empty. They come in these flavors: Blackberry Hibiscus, Cherry Lime, Coconut Mango, Cranberry Lemonade, Guava Mamma, Raspberry Passion, and Strawberry Lemonade. I don’t even have a favorite here, they’re all good. But if I had to choose… I’d say Coconut Mango. It’s so refreshing and not overly sweet.

Mamma Chia have also released new Organic Chia Seed Energy drinks. In the flavors Blackberry Blast, Cherry Charge, Grape Power, and Raspberry Razz, these buzzing beverages not only off the same 2500mg of Omega-3s as the regular chia drink, but also 95mg of caffeine (about as much caffeine as a cup of coffee), as well as fiber and protein. If you click through the product details on the Mamma Chia website, you can score a $0.55 off coupon and give these a try!

Go for the Gold & Get Equipped to Achieve Your Fitness Goals!

*This post is sponsored by on behalf of Single Edition Media*

This past year has been an interesting journey for me. In the past ten months I’ve found a fitness activity that I really actually like. I remember reading a zillion health and fitness magazines, and there were so many features on people who had met their fitness and weight goals and they would always say something like “find a workout you love, and it’ll be easier”. I never really bought it until I found mine. The trick is staying motivated and inspired – and the right gear can definitely help you get there.

BabbleBox Gold

With so many athletes setting amazing new athletic records this summer, it’s not hard to find inspiration! Even though I’m not a gymnast, the ladies on the USA team have been amazing these games – I’ve been following their performances like a true patriot, and I’d like to think my new gear reflects that. I recently scored some ridiculously amazing high performance compression workout tights by 2XU in my BabbleBoxx. I’m kind of obsessed with the red, white, and blue “X” going on the legs, but these tights are more than pretty. They also feature graduated compression, engineered to promote maximum blood flow – which means a faster pre-exercise muscle warm up, reduced muscle soreness, and reduced fatigue through less muscle oscillation. Plus, right now the code 2XU20 will score you 20% off!

Best Workout Gear

To add to my red, white, and blue collection, the Baby-G Tri-Color Watch – from Casio’s female timepiece brand – was created as a counterpart to the 1994 G-SHOCK. It’s pretty darn amazing, I got so many compliments on it at my last spin class. It’s shock and water resistant, and has multiple daily alarms and stopwatch functions.

Baby G Casio WatchBaby G WatchBaby G Shock Watch

You guys already know I’m obsessed with The Vitamin Shoppe, last time I was in there I was wearing my Vitamin Shoppe shirt and was mistaken for an employee. Despite my fandom knowing no bounds, I actually had no idea about TRUE ATHLETE until recently. TRUE ATHLETE by the Vitamin Shop is basically the new name in sports nutrition supplements. It was created for fitness enthusiasts, formulated with care by The Vitamin Shoppe, it is free of banned supplements, as well as artificial colors, flavors or sweeteners.

True Athlete Training Formula

I tried the TRUE ATHLETE® ZMA with Theanine, Energized Training Formula in Fruit Punch, as well as the Natural Whey Protein Packets. I am obsessed with the whey protein packets – I have this handy blender bottle now, and throwing a decent protein drink together is a seamless experience. Which is always good, I’ll take simple in any area of my life – when I can.

Purpletale Steps to Lovely Skin

I am not one of those pretty workout people. I do not emerge from 45 minutes of spin looking like someone who has that mythical “post-workout glow”. I look like someone who was almost suffocated. To get any kind of glow I have to drink inordinate amounts of water and pamper my rebellious skin. But it’s worth the effort, Purpletale shares my outlook that when you look good on the outside, it helps you feel good on the inside. Purpletales 5 step all in one facial kit starts with a foam cleanser, followed by an ampoule, then an invigorating bio-cellulous sheet mask, step four is a facial cream, and finally neck cream. My skin feels horrible after a workout, I think it has to do with all the salty sweat and heat. I used this an my skin felt really light and clean, soft and hydrated – taking care of oneself sure has its benefits. I also love that these are TSA approved – so grab it on the go, one of these kits would be awesome on those long 8-hour flights.

Just Water

You’ve probably seen JUST Water’s water bottles around before. It’s 100% spring water, and that iconic paper water bottle is made of 83% renewable resources, which is done by using paper and plant-based plastic from sugarcane, resulting in a 74% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to a range of traditional plastic bottles. This is not your standard bottle of water. This is bottle water worthy of gold medal toting athletes. Or even folks like me – people taking simple steps, with the help of great products, to achieve some pretty inspirational goals.

Do you have a favorite fitness product? What helps to keep you motivated? I’d love to know, let me know in the comments or send me a tweet!

My ALOHA Moment: Setting New Goals!

Have you ever had that moment where you’ve been working hard on a project or goal and finally you begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel (in a good way, haha!)? Well, I’ve recently had that euphoric sensation with one of my personal goals. To celebrate I’ve started making big plans for myself – and one of them is to finally, finally travel to Italy. I have only ever once been abroad, and traveling to Europe has been on my bucket list pretty much my entire life. I’ve given myself two years to go – meaning that from now to the spring of 2018 I’d like to have been to Italy once. It’s sort of a lifestyle decision, cutting out all the excessive excuses that I’ve clung too for the past few years. It’s a practice that I’m applying to other aspects of my life, including what I eat and how I take care of my body.

Aloha ReviewAloha Chocolate Protein Powder

I was in Target the other day when I spotted the pretty cream and teal packaging of ALOHA. I’m not even going to mince words here – I was instantly drawn to their minimalist packaging. I’m at a point in my life where clutter just drives me crazy, which is fortuitous because ALOHA is all about making health simple and accessible. They know that for most people the idea of “maintaining a healthy lifestyle” has just become ridiculously complicated. Seriously. Even decisions like eating better can become instantly complex with people telling you to eat less carbs, just carbs, no sugar, only natural sugar, no fat, just healthy fats, just meat, no meat, just veggies, only these veggies, no salt, not enough salt. It’s crazy out there ya’ll. ALOHA makes things simple.

Aloha Plant Based Protein PowderAloha Protein Powder in TargetAloha Benefits

They are full of powerful ingredients and free of GMOs, gluten, dairy, soy, and anything artificial. All their products are plant-based and organic. I love it because I can trust that what I’m putting in my body is real. Thanks to ALOHA, I tried their True Chocolate Protein Powder. Each serving delivers 18g of protein, and is 100% free of harsh chemicals, fillers, and artificial sweeteners. I like to mix mine up in a berry smoothie, but the chocolate is not so pronounced that you couldn’t also mix it up with your favorite green smoothies or smoothie bowl too!

Aloha Protein Bars and Powder

I also tried their ALOHA Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Bars. I am a die-hard fan of peanut butter and chocolate. In my mind there is no better marriage than that of PB and chocolate. Now I spend most of my time downtown, and I hate eating in public. So to have the option to snack on this as a meal replacement and get my hit of chocolate and peanut butter is the best news ever. These are so handy, and they have plenty of chew, so you don’t feel like you missed out on anything. And each bar also contains 18g of plant-based protein, as well as 6g of fiber!

Aloha Protein Bars

I’m pretty obsessed with these protein products. I feel like you can taste the difference. The Superfoods like the ones used in ALOHA can superpower me to meet my goals by helping me feed my body with the things it needs.

You can give ALOHA a go by using their subscription plan on and have them deliver to you, or you can swing by your local Target and pick it up there!

Spinbrush Launches Truly Radiant Clean & Fresh Collection with Alison Sweeney at Flywheel

I’m the sort of person that prefers lounging to lunges, whipped cream to weight lifting, quick naps instead of quick jogs. As it happens, a few weeks ago Arm & Hammer asked me if I would like to take a spin class at Flywheel with Alison Sweeney & Spinbrush. Spurred on by delusions of me spinning my way through a 45 minute workout, I said “sign me up!” My response in the affirmative may have been seriously slightly influenced by the opportunity to meet Sami Brady in the flesh, but the fall-out came afterwards where I repeatedly messaged my friend Nellie from Brooklyn Active Mama about the likeliness of my death-by-spin-class. If you don’t follow Nellie, you definitely should, she’s an amazing lifestyle and fitness expert, plus she’s one of the coolest ladies I know.

Flywheel Spinbrush EventFlywheel Chelsea

Nellie refused to let me chicken out, and joined me as well, and honestly it was a really eye-opening experience. I did not anticipate how much fun I would have, and really did not imagine that I would stay on the bike for the entire 45 minutes – and I did! And it was awesome! Also, it was really cool that Alison stayed there the entire time too!

 Bike Monitor

Alison Sweeney, who is an Arm & Hammer spokesperson, spoke briefly about the new Arm & Hammer Truly Radiant Clean & Fresh collection. The new Clean & Fresh collection features a toothpaste, mouthwash, as well as a battery operated and manual toothbrush. The collection delivers deep cleaning and lasting freshness by way of their patented dual-action brush head, and can be used along with the toothpaste and rinse for a smile that is noticeably whiter.

 Truly Radiant Clean and Fresh

Having been a dedicated spin-brusher for years now, I actually noticed a massive difference between this Clean & Fresh Spinbrush and my older model – this brush moved much quicker, the bristles were very effective but not irritating, and my teeth felt way cleaner. Also, the toothpaste and mouthwash have this great spearmint flavor that lasts all morning, so high-five for fresh breath, haha! Also, if your food features a lot of garlic, this is the collection for you. I love cooking with garlic, and this toothpaste and mouthwash worked like a dream to get rid of that garlic breath and weird flavor, so basically, I’m sold!

Arm and Hammer Truly Radiant Collection

Thank you so much for the invite Arm & Hammer! Since then I’ve already been back for another spin!

POPSUGAR NatureBox Review

For those of you who don’t know, I’m a massive POPSUGAR fan – I especially love their subscription POPSUGAR Must Have box. Every now and then they also do limited edition select boxes, and being a POPSUGAR Select Beauty Blogger, I was lucky enough to receive one such box. The box I was sent is a part of POPSUGAR Must Have’s recent partnership with NatureBox – another subscription service which I know and love – so I figured putting the concept behind these two boxes together was going to be a winning formula!

The POPSUGAR Must Have Snacks box included six various snack options including: Dried Peaches, Blueberry Almond Bites, Lemon Pucker Pistachios, Seaweed Rice Pops, and a special POPSUGAR Must Have Mix.

Firstly, I’m just going to put this out there, the whole selection is perfect for welcoming in the summer. From the Dried Peaches – which would be perfect as a garnish for a fizzy drink, to the Blueberry Almond Bites – which are great on the fly – I think all six bags were perfect snacking options.

Blueberry Almond Bites, POPSUGAR, NatureBox

The great thing is that if you’re not into diving straight into the snacks and eating them by themselves by the handful (unlike me, haha!), you can also incorporate some of them into fun meals. For instance, I restrained myself and saved the Lemon Pucker Pistachios for the next time I make soba noodles, and oriental chicken salad – they’re so going to add the perfect pop of nuttiness and citrus to both dishes!

My favorite of all six snacks was the POPSUGAR Must Have Mix – it was so good, I wish I had more! Thanks POPSUGAR & NatureBox!

For a limited time get your hands on this limited edition POPSUGAR Must Have Snacks by NatureBox for %50 off the normal monthly price of $19.99 by clicking here! That’s only $10 for this fantastic box stuffed with amazing snacks!

Spring is finally in the air and now it’s out with the old, in with the new. I not only think about spring cleaning my home, but my body as well. I don’t make the healthiest eating choices, especially during those long winter months. Then Spring hits and I wonder why nothing fits and why I feel like crap 50% of the time.

It’s time to get into healthier habits though, such as eating better for me foods. Another thing that I’ll do to help speed up the progress and help my digestive health is to try a probiotic, like Insync.

Insync helps promote digestive system balance with a gradual release of probiotic B. Infantis and 5 other natural probiotic strains. So join me for the Twitter Party and lets chat health!

NYC Hot Spot: D’Vida Health Bar

Last month I swung by D’Vida Health Bar’s One World Plaza spot to try their newest drink – the Smoocino. However, I’m one of those weird people who drink cold drinks year ’round even in icy cold weather and instead of going for their hot smoothie I decided to try their cold one’s (having never tried or been to D’Vida before). I was lucy enough to be joined by 1/2 of D’Vida’s founding team, Milena Kozhin.

D'Vida Health Bar, NYC, Health, Health Bar, Fresh SmoothiesD'Vida Health Bar, NYC, Health, Health Bar, Fresh Smoothies

Milena was probably one of the coolest business owner’s/founder’s I’ve ever met, she has an amazing background and is so obviously enthusiastic about D’Vida. She knows she has a great product and that she doesn’t need to have a massive billboard in the middle of Times Square to get the word out – once people try it, they love it, share it, and continually come back for more.

After trying a special Peanut Butter Chocolate Banana protein shake of her own making I have to admit that she’s absolutely right – the shake was addictingly good. I’m not even kidding, it tasted better then ice cream. I know it sounds unbelievable but oh my goodness was it good!

D'Vida Health Bar, NYC, Health, Health Bar, Fresh Smoothies

I also tried a green smoothie, having been more familiar with green smoothies I have to say D’Vida’s was pleasantly fresh tasting – without any sticky aftertaste in the back of your throat that usually accompanies sugar alternatives (I’m fairly certain that Milena said that D’Vida uses Stevia).

D'Vida Health Bar, NYC, Health, Health Bar, Fresh Smoothies

I’m most disappointed that D’Vida has been around for a while and I never bothered to stop by – I feel like I missed out on so much, the good thing is now I can make up for lost time! ;) But seriously, I’ve already introduced D’Vida to family and friends and they’re also big fans now. It’s close by, the staff is friendly, and their smoothies are delicious – it’s definitely my favorite smoothie place in NYC right now!

They have two locations in the city right now, you can find out how to get their as well as access their menu by clicking here!

#50DaysFit Day 34 Update!

I initially wrote this really detailed and personal post on my progress so far with my #50DaysFit challenge. However, my computer ate it and won’t give it back so I’ll have to give you a brief synopsis of what the original post said. Initially I wanted to update every five days, however when the time came I took a look at my fitness journal and felt it was pretty darn boring so I thought I would do round-up style post like this.

I have spent the last seven or so years without a healthy breakfast routine so getting one in place has been a bit of a struggle. That being said, my favorite options are eggs (when I have time), smoothies, Quaker’s New Granola Warm & Crunchy line (which I enjoy with yogurt), and Cascadian Farm’s New Protein Bar’s (I like the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip one’s). I’m still on the lookout for new recipes, I get bored pretty easily and love to try new things – so if you know of a good breakfast recipe or item, let me know!

Option 3

I recently started premaking lunches – I feel like if I don’t know what I’ll be eating then I will choose something that’s fast, which tends to be unhealthy. I pinned this Grilled Chicken Veggie Bowls recipe from Picky Palate ages ago and was super excited about making it myself. It turned out really well, although I omitted the asparagus and quinoa (I didn’t have any on hand at the time). The most surprising thing I’ve learned about pre-made lunches is that personally, it gives me the sense that I have more time in the day to do other things. I don’t have to take the time to decide on, make or buy lunch – I just pop it in the microwave for 2 minutes and keep on working.

As for working out, I haven’t had the chance to exercise every single day as I had hoped. However, I have been incorporating health-minded activities into my life on a daily basis – which is the goal of #50DaysFit, so I don’t feel bad about it at all. I guess the real change so far is that I no longer feel like getting fit is impossible – and while it’s not official, I’m definitely thinking of challenging myself further with another fitness challenge, but more on that next time!

Just GoGirl Tackles Athletic Leaks

Believe it or not, according to Just GoGirl, more than 25 million women experience urinary leakage during their workouts. Urinary leakage, or athletic leaks, is when women experience leakage during exercise or other physical activities. For whatever reason the topic of athletic leaks has gone mostly unnoticed, that is, until recently. Not too long ago I had a chance to join Brooke Solis, founder & CEO of JustGoGirl, as well as other female influencers to have a discussion about athletic incontinence and how Just GoGirl pads is providing coverage against leaks.

Get Social with Just Go GirlJust-Go-Girl-Luncheon
Brooke, having had five kids of her own, discussed her experience when she became aware that she was having athletic leaks. To combat the leaks she started using standard sanitary napkins but found that they were uncomfortable on a number of levels. I have to say, I love how honest and frank Brooke was, she was not afraid to say that yes, the bulge of wearing a pad while also donning tight workout clothing was embarrassing and made her feel self-conscious. And she’s not the only one. A lot of women felt the same way.

That’s how she came up with the idea of Just GoGirl. Just GoPad’s are unlike standard pads (or sanitary napkins). Typical pads are not designed to absorb urine, but Just GoGirl pads are. In fact, Just GoGirl pads are even shaped differently for just this purpose. While maintaining incredible absorbency, the JustGo pad is has a raindrop shape in order to be as comfortable and as low-profile as possible for the wearer.

What’s great is that Brooke, beyond creating a product designed to provide coverage, is opening up this line of communication surrounding athletic leaks. She’s patient beyond the initial (and inevitable) awkwardness that surrounds feminine hygiene, and is excited when she hears back from friends, family, and customers when they report just how thrilled they are about Just GoGirl.

You can learn more about Just GoGirl and Brooke Solis here, the pads can be purchased in packs of 10 ($8) or as a membership.

#50DaysFit Day 5 Update!

Day 1 – To be fair, I wasn’t very healthful on Day 1, I started off my morning with a twinkie of all things. But then I also completed around 46 minutes of a workout DVD (it was the whole workout) – which amounted to 3 miles.

The NYC Talon

Day 2 – I’ve done workout’s before, so I don’t know why I somehow fooled myself into thinking that the second workout would be easier then the first. It so was not. I felt so sore, I was moving like a slug. I had to stop to grab water twice. I don’t know why, but when I’m doing a relatively simple workout I feel like stopping is cheating – which I know is ridiculous, but I somehow feel that I have to push myself really hard or I won’t see results. Still I completed all three miles – even if I did finish it dripping sweat and a lovely color purple.

Day 3 – I skipped the workout and went shopping with my family. It was a whole day affair that included TONS of walking and carrying heavy bags. We were out for 7 to 8 hours, which were mostly spent on our feet. I bought a new coat, a couple of Valentine’s Day gift bag, I also came to the realization that I was in desperate need of a new pair of shoes. I ordered these online, but had a chance to try them in the store, they had a comfortable amound of arch support and I liked the way they were secure but had room in the front. These are the Reebok  Women’s ZigKick Ride Running Athletic Shoe in Grey/Yellow:
Reebok Zigkick Sneakers
Day 4 – Sunday! Sunday is the day of rest. Honestly, I had planned to get in some walking but I was pretty exhausted. I’m not going to lie and say I didn’t feel a twinge of guilt for not doing anything fitness related but I was really tired and really needed a rest.

Day 5 – I started this morning off with an early walk (yes, through the snow), and then did the last 2 miles of my 3 mile fitness walk with High Intensity Interval Training. I figured the first mile tends to be more of a warm up and the last two miles is where the heart pumping fun comes in ;)

And that’s it! That’s my five day update of #50DaysFit – I’m actually and very much surprisingly enjoying it, and I’m 1/10th of the way through! I haven’t done much in the way of changing my eating habits, but it’s on my mind and I have made a bit more of an effort to drink more water, especially during my workout. I’m also really looking forward to my new pair of sneakers! Are you making any fitness or health related changes? Let me know in the comments below, especially if you’ve got any tips or know of any great exercises I should try!
