LG Supports Share Our Strength’s “No Kid Hungry” at Taste of the Nation Charity Fundraiser Event in NYC

Did you know that more than 16 million American children are affected by childhood hunger? It’s a staggering number, and the reason why Share Our Strength’s “No Kid Hungry” Taste of the Nation culinary series exists – to help raise awareness and support in tackling this imperative issue. The Taste of the Nation series takes place in various cities across that nation, and last week, many of NYC’s top chef’s and mixologists came together for NYC’s Taste of the Nation fundraiser. As one of Share Our Strength’s premier national partners, LG had an exciting presence at the event – if you didn’t know, earlier this month LG Electronics USA announced their unique partnership with Share Our Strength, which is committed to help end childhood hunger with No Kid Hungry.

LG Taste of the NationLG No Kid Hungry Event

Thanks to LG, I was able to attend Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry Taste of the Nation Charity Fundraiser. LG had setup what looked like a small restaurant in the space, complete with a menu, and a preview of LG’s line of Black Stainless Steel kitchen appliances. In between bites, we were able to put LG’s Virtual Kitchen Design tool to work – the design tool helps visualize how LG’s Black Stainless Steel works in every kitchen environment and design. I also had their 100 Mile NY Filet Mignon which was served with Yukon gold gnocchi, upstate NY spring onion relish, Catskill asparagus, and red pepper coulis.

LG Farm to Table Filet Mignon

It was so good – the filet mignon was perfectly tender and so delicious, I would have kept ordering it if I didn’t have over 30 other restaurants to sample from! Here’s what else I ate:

Sexy Taco Dirty Cash Taste of the NationPublic Restaurant Taste of the Nation

Sexy Taco/Dirty Cash’s Chef Brian Washington-Palmer treated guests to Chile Braised Pork Tostadas with Jicama-Cumin Slaw – I’m adding this spot to my need-to-eat-at list, these tostadas were ridiculously good. I am not a big fan of vegan desserts, my experience with them has been unexciting. However, Public Restaurant’s Chef Brad Farmerie served up a Vegan Dark Chocolate Oat Tart that was shockingly decadent – I was certainly a fan. One hot spot at the event was Chef Jessica Weiss’ (Marta & Maialino) assorted biscotti buffet. Guests were loading up on a variety of her cookies – and I definitely appreciated her salted chocolate cookies the next day!

Marta & Maialino Taste of the Nation NYCUnderwest Donuts Taste of the Nation

Underwest Donuts’ Chef Scott Levine was turning out extremely popular Halva Donuts next door to Root & Bone’s Chef Romina Peixoto’s Kentucky Donuts with Bourbon Cream – they were both the stuff of dreams. The Kentucky Donuts were served warm, which only heightened the experience for me.

OddFellows at Taste of the NationSherry B Dessert Studio Taste of the Nation

OddFellows Ice Cream Co. had an amazing Neopolitan Sundae – I’ve actually never been to OddFellows so this was a real treat for me. It was so good, now I know that I HAVE to go! Sherry B Dessert Studio had an all-star lineup featuring Fluffernutter on Banana Bread (classic peanut butter and marshmallow fluff reimagined as an ice cream, sandwiched between layers of banana bread), Suzy Q (an ice cream sandwich take on the infamous snack cake with Sweet Cream Ice Cream and Devil’s Food Cake), and The Tipsy Lux (Luxardo Maraschino Cherries soaked in maraschino liquor and blended with swirls of Amaretto fudge and Amaretto Candies Almonds, all piled high on a Maraschino Cake).

I went back for seconds thirds of Sessanta’s (Chef Paul DiBari) Spiedini of Marinated Octopus with Chermoula. I even snapped up their last serving. ICE also served up an insane pasta that I unfortunately cannot remember the name of.

Sessanta Taste of the Nation NYC

I almost had to roll myself out of there, haha! There was so much great food, and it was so nice seeing the nation’s top chefs and restaurants get together for a great cause. LG’s partnership with Share Our Strength is a perfect fit, seeing as how LG is a brand that is really dedicated to bringing families together in the kitchen, they hold family mealtime at the core of its values so dedicating themselves to helping make sure that more kids across the country are getting access to the healthy meals that they need makes perfect sense!

Celebrity Makeup Artist Jamie Greenberg Reveals Her Spring Beauty Tips with Zyrtec & Gilt City

My seasonal allergies act as my yearly reminder that spring has indeed sprung. Just a few days after I noticed my persistent sniffling and watery eyes were not a late-winter cold but just the return of my allergies, I was invited to join celebrity makeup artist Jamie Greenberg and actress Jordanna Brewster for a fun event with Gilt City and Zyrtec who have teamed up with Jamie to offer Gilt City shoppers a sweet promo (more on that in a minute). The event was held at the Crosby Street Hotel, which is one of my favorite spots in the city because the penthouse views are seriously gorgeous, take a look!

Jamie’s tips for making sure that allergies don’t get the best of your beauty routine, include avoiding wiggling the wand (which I admit, I do) when you’ve got allergies as it can cause your eyes to water more and leave you with smudges. She also suggests trying out a flat fan brush instead of wand to apply mascara, if all else fails, use disposable mascara wands each time you apply mascara during the allergy season, it’ll help you avoid allergens and other build-up that can occur on reusable wands.

Jamie also recommends applying cool moisturizer, which may help reduce puffiness caused by allergies. Storing your moisturizer in your refrigerator (I store mine in the butter compartment), and before bedtime remove all your makeup with a gentle cleanser and apply the cool cream to your face to soothe and nourish skin overnight.

My favorite bit of new advice was this – very often oils, allergens, and other residue can build up on the surface of our makeup (and even in our cosmetic bags – so clean those regularly too!). To avoid this issue, Jamie suggests laying transparent adhesive tape over the powder to remove straggling debris from the surface. It’s also a good idea to opt for pencils instead of twist-up products, as every time you sharpen you’ll know that you’re starting off with a clean layer of makeup.

While I didn’t arrive early enough to catch Jordanna, I was able to get a gorgeous and Allergy Face friendly look done by Sarah DiGisco from GLAMSQUAD – thanks Sarah!

Now about that promo I mentioned, right now until May 30th, you can score a free Allergy Face beauty bag (RV $19) when you shop Gilt City’s Beauty in Bloom sale and check out with at least one item. The beauty bag features sample sizes of Aveeno Ultra-Calming Nourishing Night Cream, Neutrogena Moisture Shine Gloss, Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascara, as well as an Allergy Sufferers’ Guide to Spring Beauty and a $10 off coupon for Zyrtec, all packaged in a sturdy cosmetic bag as seen here:

The Beauty in Bloom sale has loads of gorgeous accessories as well as some handy beauty supplies. I love shopping on Gilt & Gilt City, and I’ve already got my eye on a pair of amazing shades – they’d be perfect for spring! Also, while you’re checking out the sale, be sure to enter Gilt City & Zyrtec’s The Ultimate Spring Refresh Sweepstakes for a chance to win a trip for two to L.A., a makeover by Jamie Greenberg herself, $1ooo in gift cards and more!

Do you have any great spring beauty tips or tricks, if you do, let me know in the comments below!

Maker Meetup & Small Business Marketing with The UPS Store

*This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #AmericanMakers #CollectiveBias*

Owning a small business is a ton of work – if you own one yourself, or know someone who does, then you don’t need me to tell you that. One of my favorite celebrities, Martha Stewart, is a massive supporter of small business, makers, and creative entrepreneurs. She annually hosts Martha Stewart American Made – an event that highlights some of America’s most exciting small businesses. This year, the headlining sponsor is The UPS Store. I joined The UPS Store at the UPS Maker Meetup Event – a sort of preview of American Made – at The Center for Social Innovation, and it was pretty awesome!

As one of the first to arrive, I was able to watch as The UPS Store quickly became the hub of activity at the Meetup, which was really no wonder as they had an amazing Prints to Live By setup going, complete with an illustrator creating personalized images! I’m going to be completely honest with you all here, I get ridiculously excited about things like this. I come from a family of very artistic and talented people, so being able to be in an environment of creatives as well as have something completely personalized created for me on the spot is frankly, very, very cool.

I wish I had gotten the artist’s name – but she was so focused, churning out gorgeous calligraphy, that I didn’t want to interrupt her and ask. I had a Hercule Poirot quote made – my sister, the small business owner in my family, is a massive fan of the Poirot book and BBC series and I just knew she would love to have his favorite phrase hanging on her wall! It came out so well, they even framed it right there – thanks The UPS Store!

Other amazing innovators at the event included Mel’s Melting pot – a local husband and wife team that are dedicated to producing flavorful condiments using both local and international ingredients, and my personal favorite was artisan Nutty Spread. Nutty Spread is an organic, fair trade, hazelnut chocolate spread that’s dairy free. I was speaking to the owner about Nutty Spread (which is delicious by the way) and was so impressed with his commitment to producing a delicious and fair trade spread that uses only the best ingredients.

As it happens, my sister – who owns an etsy shop and teaches independent art classes – was looking to quickly create some marketing materials for her the art courses that she’s teaching at a local community center. Naturally, I turned to The UPS Store. If you haven’t heard, The UPS Store is now offering more than just shipping, they also offer amazing printing services – which is perfect for the small business owner. Need to print out a large poster? Some flyers on the fly? The UPS Store has got you covered! They even have some pre-set design options that actually look great.

The UPS Store’s #PrintstoLiveBy campaign is focusing on all the amazing printing options offered by The UPS Store, including banners, posters, brochures, business cards, catalogs, copies, envelopes, flyers, forms, greeting cards, invitations, magnets, manuals, menus, newsletters, postcards, presentations, and reports! Whew! Pretty much anything you’re looking to print, I’d say – oh, and 3D Printing as well! You can follow along by using the hashtag and following @theupsstore on Twitter and Instagram.

We had some poster designs created, chose our favorite out of all of them, and uploaded it to The UPS Store’s online printing store. If you’re conveniently located to a UPS Store they might split your order so you can pick up some items in store, and others will be shipped to you. My sister has moved her art classes to a new location and was looking to print a couple of posters as well as flyers, during the process of choosing the best materials (The UPS Store offers various options) we spoke to a customer service associate who was very accommodating. Our order came out wonderful – we’re so excited with how they turned out, that we’re already planning on ordering more!

Je T’aime Paris: Shop the Gilt City & Lancôme Event Now!

I love Gilt City. I mean really, really love them. I discovered them almost a year ago and since then I’ve eaten at some amazing places and purchased some of my favorite products – all at an incredible discount. Currently, Gilt City has teamed up with Lancôme – another favorite brand of mine – to offer Joie de Vivre, a Parisian-inspired online event featuring a curated Gilt City collection of Francophile experiences in Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, and New York – from the hottest French bistros to French cooking classes!

Lancome Gilt

One experience being offered is a three course dinner for two at NYC restaurant Beautique. Thanks to Gilt City & Lancôme, I was able to try out Beautique for myself! Beautique is located on 58th street, across the street from The Plaza Hotel. The dinner itself was delicious – and Beautique has taken the time to print special Gilt City menus – so you never have to finagle with your waiter/tress.

Beautique NYC

Beautique is located down a flight of stairs – which lends it an air of exclusivity, but also means my photos came out pretty rubbish because there’s no natural light (sorry guys!). My guest and I had their Zucchini & Goat Cheese Risotto with Meyer Lemon (a special for restaurant week); Chicken Breast with Pea Puree, Roasted Tomato and Chicken Jus; Branzino with Ramps, Artichokes, Potato Fondant, & Barigoule; and for dessert we had vanilla bean cheesecake with oreo ice cream.

As if I wasn’t feeling spoiled enough, I also previewed some pieces from Lancôme’s French Paradise Glowing Summer 2015 Color Collection – which I’ll be swatching separately – so keep an eye out!

Gilt and Gilt City members can also receive 20% off Lancôme products, shop chic French brands, and score a Lancôme Gift with Purchase (of $100 or more) at Gilt.com/Lancome, until July 30th!

Winter’s Eve at Lincoln Square!

Last night my sisters, brother, and I attended the annual Winter’s Eve at Lincoln Square. We’ve actually been going every year since I was in high school, so it really has become one of my favorite family holiday traditions. While we all love the festive fun activities like the tree lighting ceremony, and the crafts for kids that are offered in many businesses from the Time Warner Center to 66th street, the highlight of the evening for us is the food!

We always start from Time Warner Center and work our way up to 66th street, they do offer a trolley but we just walk up. This year it’s estimated that around 20k people turned out for Winter’s Eve – the sidewalks were packed, but New Yorkers kept it moving. Winter's Eve Columbus Circle So basically, NYC’s local restaurants and bakeries sell small bites at $1-5 each at three different locations – Time Warner Center Columbus Circle, Lincoln Square Restaurant Row on Broadway between 62nd & 64th, and Richard Tucker Park on Broadway between 65th & 66th street.

We lined up at Sapphire Indian Cuisine and Asiate at Time Warner – they always have ginormous lines, and they also sell two of our favorites every year. Asiate does a delicious Beignet that is simply magical – we all bought our own because when something tastes that good, you just don’t share.

Asiate at Winter's Eve

Saphire Indian Cuisine serves Tikka Masala every year – and it is a hit every time. Seriously, the line there can get insane but the portion size is decent and the tikka is warm, delicious, and not too spicy. Sapphire Indian Cuisine at Winter's Eve Arpeggio Food & Wine had an amazing Panettone Bread Pudding, Rosa Mexicano had Mexican Hot Chocolate – they also do this every year and we love love love it! We also bought the Pasta e Fagioli and Chocolate Mousse from Cafe Fiorello, and Banana Bread Pudding from Magnolia.

Atlantic Grill served up an insanely delicious Mini Carrot Cheesecake with Winter Fruit Compote. Atlantic Grill is one of my favorite restaurants, so I was really happy to see them there. The tarty citrus flavor of the compote really went well with the creaminess of the cheesecake and warm flavors of the carrot cake. Atlantic Grill at Winter's Eve Landmarc served up a tasty Orrichette alla Norcina, and Gourmet Garage had my favorite Tomato Cheddar Soup. Francesco’s Pizzeria had delicious Zitti and Penne Alla Vodka – one of the more generous portions of the evening. La Boite En Bois served insanely good Mushroom Ravioli with a Light Cognac Sauce. The ravioli was one of my favorite dishes – it had surprising depth of flavor, and the cognac sauce was plate-licking good.

I’ve never been to Andanada, but based on what I had last night they are next on my list. I had their Campiñones rellenos de jamon, and Pulpo A La Gallega. The Campiñones rellenos de jamon had great flavor and was pleasantly salty, but the Pulpo is what really sold me on Andanada. Pulpo A La Gallega is octopus seasoned with olive oil and pimienton de vera served under mashed potato puree – and their’s was so good! The octopus was tender, and the mashed potato puree was creamy and played well with the flavors of the dish. Andanada at Winter's EveWinter's Eve PuppetsBar MASA at Winter's Eve We ate quite a lot, but it was so great being surrounded by fellow NY’ers and being able to try so many great dishes. We loved listening the the live music, and taking part in one of our favorite holiday traditions!

Build-A-Bear Workshop Opens in FAO Schwarz in NYC!

Last Friday, my sister and I headed downtown to the newly opened Build-A-Bear Workshop at FAO Schwarz. I’ve actually never been to a Build-A-Bear before, so it was pretty exciting for me!

Build-A-Bear Workshop in FAO Schwartz in NYC

The Build-A-Bear Workshop in the FAO Schwarz store is actually their very first store-within-a-store, and is the only one in the US right now. Jules and I arrived early, before the ribbon cutting ceremony (check out pics from the ceremony here!) and were able to go through the complete experience.

Building a Bear

I love how interactive the whole experience was, and I feel like having the Workshop inside the legendary FAO Schwarz store adds a whole other layer of fun and really makes it a NYC destination experience not to be missed!

A Bear Named Sally

Jules ended up creating her very first Build-A-Bear, which she named Sally. She was able to add fun characteristics to Sally’s heart – for instance, she’s smart, strong, and loyal. Sally also has a beating heart and plays “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” whenever Jules squeezes her left arm.

I really love how Build-A-Bear included a lot of NYC themed exclusive animals and accessories!

NYC Build-A-Bear Workshop

I’m definitely planning on making my own Thor bear – although I’d definitely like to see a Loki costume too!

Thor Build-A-Bear

We love the new Build-A-Bear store and are already planning a return!

Timeless Beauty at Pelham Parkway NORC and the Sue Ginsburg Senior Center!

What I love about beauty is that it is timeless and that it can be found in every woman. Last week I was extremely blessed to provide a little TLC for some lovely ladies at the Sue Ginsburg Community Center via the Pelham Parkway NORC program. The Sue Ginsburg Community Center & the Pelham Parkway NORC are great programs that are a valuable resource for the community’s seniors. Seniors can drop in for a hot lunch, check their email, get their blood pressure checked or any one of the other services available, it truly is appreciated. At our Timeless Beauty event, I was lucky enough to meet some seriously timeless beauties!

Beauty Set UpBronx Beauty EventBeauty Products

I gathered up some of my favorite beauty products – including Benefit’s Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Foundation , lovely colored lipsticks, Sally Hansen nail polishes, NYC eyeliners to name a few and headed out the door. I loved talking shop with the ladies, they shared my general enthusiasm for beauty and were eager to swap tips, tricks, and product recommendations! It was a pleasure learning from them as they shared some tips of their own with me – like what products they use to moisturize delicate skin and favorite sun protection lotions.

Timeless Beauty Event

As part of the event some even had their nails painted while refreshments were served. It was a great time! I genuinely loved being able to show some of the ladies how to highlight their natural beauty – which is what makeup is about – not wearing a mask, but just flaunting what you’ve already got and feeling beautiful. I wanted them to feel pampered and beautiful.

Bronx Beauty Event at Pelham

At the end of the event swag bags were provided by The NYC Talon for everyone that had their makeup done (in The NYC Talon colors, of course). The ladies also got to take home the eyeliner and lipstick of their choice.

Swag Bags

It was a lovely afternoon, and I want to thank NORC and the Sue Ginsburg Senior Center as well as all the lovely women at the event – I certainly hope that we’ll do it again!

NYC Wine & Food Festival: Day 2

*This post is a part of my work with Progresso, however all opinions are completely honest and my own. For more information please see the PR tab above. Thank you!

My second day at the NYC Wine & Food Festival was pretty eventful – I definitely ate more, haha! There was less of a crowd, and I was able to actually stop at different places rather then being pushed along by a massive swarm of people. Here are some of my memorable eats:

NYCWFF FoodMore food from NYCWFF

My favorite was the smoked salmon from Domain NYC. They smoked the salmon right there and were drawing a curious crowd. They plated it in these little plastic orbs so that when you opened the lid your nose was flooded with the mouthwatering smoky scent of the salmon.

Domain NYC at NYCWFF

Another favorite was from Chipotle. Confessesion: I’ve never ever had Chipotle before – I know, I know, shame on me. However, if they turn out food as good as the carnita tacos I had from them at NYCWFF then they’ve won a new customer.

Chipotle at NYCWFF

I also had a great clam chowder – however, I had been eating for a few hours straight and was too full to finish it.

Clam Chowder at NYCWFF

In between eating I did manage to win a Rachel Ray grill set from the Progresso Artisan stage! I was so excited – I told you guys how I saw all these people on day 1 walking away with cool prizes, well, I absolutely did not expect to win one myself!

Progresso Artisan Giveaways

I have to say, one of my favorite moments from NYCWFF was meeting Ed Levine of SeriousEats.com. I’ve been reading Serious Eats since I was in middle school, and it was definitely a source of inspiration as both a writer and a eater. How much of an inspiration you ask? Well, between reading Serious Eats and Ruth Reichl’s books, I went from wanting to be a doctor to wanting to be a food writer, and I even went so far as to start my own NYC food blog while I was still in high school.

Progresso Artisan Stage Serious Eats Ed Levine and Kenji

Anyways, Ed was on the Progresso stage with J. Kenji Lopez-Alt (Serious Eats & The Food Lab – we’re also massive Kenji fans at my house), as well as other chefs who were dishing up their own soups as well as engaging NYCWFF attendees with tales of their favorite soups, ingredients, and techniques. Good times. Check out what the chef’s created!

Soup Number 1Soup Number 2

Later on restauranteur Joe Bastianich (Eataly, Del Posto, etc.) regaled the Progresso Artisan audience with everything from soup and wine pairings to stories of how he personally identifies with the Progresso brand, and more specfically their new Artisan Soup line!

Joe Bastianich at NYCWFF with Progresso Artisan SoupsI have to say, being a Progresso Artisan ambassador was awesome, and I can’t wait to share with you all what I thought of each of the soups – so stay tuned!
